Dude. Just google this. There have been women fighting along side men in the US since the Revolutionary War. Deborah Sampson fought alongside men for 17 months disguised as a man until a fever requiring medical attention revealed her gender. Molly Pitcher manning a cannon when her husband fell. Those women then leading up to SGT Ann Hester receiving a Silver Star for her actions in a firefight. This bad ass woman CHARGED and ASSAULTED A TRENCH LINE. Women don't have to make it to the Ranger Regiment or Special Forces in order to fight along side men. Of course, this leads to a follow-on question: Why does it matter?

I am not sure how you are looking at this. I have served with females that were among the best officers in my unit. I would even say better than me in most areas. I can also say that there have been men that have served in positions that they were not prepared for. We need to stop looking at gender like we stopped looking at race in the past. We shouldn't be questioning a course or the Army in general by thinking they just want a diversity win.

The answer is yes, they are. They are in the units with men doing the same job as the men. In fact, BEFORE combat exclusion we were deployed with men, fighting along with men but we weren't supposed to be there and for some time the military got away with it by calling us "attached."

There were women right there alongside men in Iraq and Afghanistan for 20 years. Before they were allowed "combat MOSs."

I'm curious what the point of your question is or what you intended to get out of it.

What are you trying to figure out? Women have been serving in Combat consistently for decades. It's been happening for a good long while. Are you wanting to know if female Rangers are door kicking or is this more general? Even before SECDEF opened up all jobs to females we had female engagement teams out there doing their thing shoulder to shoulder supporting infantry units.

I find it strange how there are so many people responding with negative comments or circumventing the question all together. Hell, I served along side many women, who II would have gladly stood beside in a combat or peace keeping role.
Obviously, women have been serving along side men, since the beginning. There are many examples of women serving along side of men. I have seen many example of women, holding support positions, working beside SF operations, without the designation. Often doing the same work.

That wasn't the question.
Reading it,
I expected to see real yes or no answers, hopefully, with examples.
I hoped to see examples of female soldiers serving in SF, Ranger Regiments, RECON, SOF... excelling in their field.
-Are these women getting a fair shake? Equal opportunities?
-Are they, as one responder described it, only being allowed to hold 'Token' positions?
-Are these women excelling in these advanced positions. Again examples would be nice.
-Are these women finding special niches for themselves where their smaller size and strength, would be more of a benefit, over the larger, stronger men? For example Tunnels, confined spaces, Close courters combat, Demolitions, MOUT...etc.

These are just a few of the more specific questions I would love to hear the answer to. Answers, I am assuming the original poster was looking for. I don't think he was asking a history question.
How is this special, current issue of integrating women into these specialty fields really going?

I do have to admit, the Little Big horn example was kind of interesting.

Since the combat exclusion law was overturned, one woman has graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course (SFQC). She is a member of the Colorado Army National Guard's 5th Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group, and she graduated in 2020. She was last mentioned in the news at the end of 2020. Haven't heard anything about her since.

To actually answer your question from 4 months ago as I read it , "have any female Soldiers been awarded the combat MOS(s) severed along side male Soldiers with the same MOS in combat units ? " While I have been out for some time I have visited my old unit as recently as June of this year. While a pretty good size sampling of female Soldiers have been awarded combat MOS(s) the ones that had that MOS in my old unit were assigned to the head quarters and not in the infantry squads or teams. So seeing a fully integrated infantry squad doing Infantry stuff appears to be a goal for teh future. Keeping in mind this is all second hand info and your milage may vary. When you cut through the MACHO and virtue signaling BS you tend to see the ground truth. I will await to see if everything becomes equal to include the draft before I settle for a fair answer.

Somehow we have come to believe that only white men fought in the Wars that the U.S.A. engaged in. The first casualty of the Revolutionary War a Crispus Attucks, a black man. White men and women as well as Black men and women have fought in just about every war the United States has fought. Think about this. Their were women on the Rock in in the middle of Manila Bay during the Japanese siege in WWII. Do you really believe that they simply cowered in a corner or were magically transported to Podunk Kansas? They were deeply involved in that battle. Unfortunately there part in any of the wars the U.S.A. has been involved in is somehow not given any attention. But then it took a Constitutional Amendment to allow women to vote, so I guess it should not come as surprise. I mean the blacks given the right to vote via Amendment XV to the Constitution in the aftermath of the Civil War. Women didn't get that privileged until the early 20th Century with the XIX Amendment. I guess the answer to your question is Yes women have been involved in military battles since the very beginning of the United States. They just weren't given any credit for their contribution outside of nursing.

They are just as much for show as the countless other MOS that are part of the Ranger Regiment and do not see Combat. That is to say, they are NOT for show.
And if you took the time to do some research instead of typing this garbage, you would see that YES, there currently are female 75th Regiment Rangers leading Rangers in Combat Operations (CPT Coss) and at least one Green Beret in an ODA in the 10th SOG.

I learned this very quickly after I entered the Army. If I am in a situation where I jump into a foxhole and have to depend on the other person in that hole to keep me alive, I do no not care if they are male or female, Tall or short, fat or skinny, Africian American, hawaiian, mexican, or whatever. I size them up quickly and if necessary square them away as quickly and as best as possible so I might live to see the next day.

It's a decent question but the answers will be all over the place.

If you are referring to the two female Army Rangers that were pushed through the training to meet one of Obama's goals, I'd like to know that answer. The posts some of the men in their squad made were not reassuring. I'd even like to know if the whole thing was true or some made up social media trash.

I've met a few women that could kick ass. Whether they are in elite military jobs is another matter.

But who cares? Modern military equipment can be operated by almost any individual, and gender status doesn't matter in all but the most physically strenuous jobs. That's right, I said it.

There are a lot more men than women in physically demanding jobs because of the obvious differences in physique and tone. Does it not mean there could be an Army of Amazons out there? No.

My take on any job in the services has always been this: If you can legitimately pass the physical requirements, you are qualified to do the job regardless of gender.

So if more women can meet the training requirements to kick ass and take names, I say great!

I think its to early in the evolution to get a good read. Operators dont move into SOGs until they have been seasoned. It unlikely that any of the females pushed through infantry, combat engineer or ranger school have developed into that level of expertise.

I ETS'd before women were allowed in the combat arms... and honestly, when I first heard they were going to be allowed in, I instinctively shot down the idea.
Like wtf, it's a MAN's job.
But then I actually started thinking.

In my unit, we had someone who was fuckin HUGE. Buff ass silverback alpha male who joined our unit several months into our deployment... first firefight he got into with us, dude was hiding like a bitch behind a HMMWV the entire time. This dude had a ranger tab, btw. Jus sayin.

There were also other dudes who would freeze up and press their asses against the wall and literally not fucking move, no matter how much you screamed at them to.

And some scrawny ass dudes who would probably get their asses kicked by a strong, aggressive female, no doubt. They were physically weaker than some fitness girls I know. They definitely couldn't pick my 220lb ass up and carry me more than 5ft. Now take some of these other women who are boxers, cage fighters, etc.. the elite (ie, civilian equivalent to rangers, sf, etc..) Now these women -- imma be honest. They'd probably fuck me up. And I consider myself a pretty decent fighter with above average strength, agility, and definitely an animalistic mean streak when I'm angry.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I wouldn't necessarily count them out if they did fuck some shit up downrange.

Yes! And have died! Before Ranger school, when it was discovered men can't talk to women and children with out being thought of as insensitive to the culture in the middle east women dressed up just like the special ops and carried weapons. They wore scarfs and jewelry and shocked a lot of women and children but garnered a lot of information. They've been blown up, shot and suffered all the crap that causes a PTS. It would be nice if they could get treated at the VA for it. But as we all know women aren't in combat, right. Now I'm not saying getting a bag of pills at your local VA will solve much but it's a start. As a Navy corpsman how much pain and suffering does someone need to see before it digs in? You can do better than a bag of pills or alcohol. I'm not with out sin but I can say God hasn't let me down. Sometimes it takes a bit to sink in but it helps to understand God turned a lot of the day to day crap to Mother Nature. Your local American Legion, and other vet organizations can help. You need to understand your not broken or wrong. Your mother or buddy will not understand unless they've been there. Your civilian friends lives and drama are more important to them than what ever you did. Chuckle.

Most Americans, and even members of the media, are not aware that 152 brave servicewomen died in the War on Terrorism. With few exceptions, news stories about their tragic deaths usually appeared only in the military press, or in small hometown newspaper stories and television accounts that rarely captured national attention. You specifically use Rangers and Special Forces as the source of women in combat roles in the Military but that is deceptive. More women in COMBAT period have lost their lives fighting along side men. And the Military for the most part is a better institution for their bravery and abilities.
In the first Persian Gulf War, 33,000 women were deployed, but only 6 perished due to scud missile explosions or accidents. At times in our history it has been necessary to send young men to fight in defense of America. Women have always served in the armed forces with courage and distinction, but there is no military necessity to send young women and mothers to fight in close combat areas where they do not have an equal opportunity to survive, or to help fellow soldiers survive. Concern for men who are fighting and dying in post-9/11 wars should not preclude discussion of problematic policies affecting our women or the need to put them in harms way for the sake of EQUALITY.

It is interesting that so much publicity came out when female soldiers were allowed to join special forces and the outcry of the public not that long ago.....Female soldiers have been serving in combat roles for a long time. Whenever this issue comes up. I think of a friend of mine, retired Colonel ADA, who had an Aunt who was an Army Nurse during WW2. She wasn't as big as a minute, tiny lady. Could never do a ruck-march or hump a tank track block. But she did deal with the mass casualties at Hickam Field on 7 Dec '41. When transferred to the ETO she was on a hospital ship off of Normandy on 6 Jun '44 - and that ship got strafed by the Luftwaffe - and while the male sailors, Corpsmen, etc were diving behind bulkheads and into steel passageways, she was on deck, fully exposed, tossing mattresses over the wounded men who were laying there exposed, to protect them some from fragments of spall as the bullets were splattering the decks and superstructure. She did receive a Bronze Star with the "V" device for that (a man would have gotten a Silver Star at least). Later that year, they figured that she'd had a pretty rough time of it and deserved a break, so they assigned her to a nice, quiet sector where nothing was happening - - - - BASTOGNE! She did great service there as well. It's about more than being able to do so many pushups or jogging miles with a ruck or hauling the tow-cable for a tank through mud. Plenty of women have served bravely and well throughout history. Standards should not be reduced just to accommodate them, but they also should not be automatically excluded just on the basis of sex.

Yes! I have friends who were members of the cultural support team (CST), who served with the Rangers in their units in Afghanistan! They carry the same load, the same weapons, fought beside them, and when they took over a town searching for insurgence it was the CST’s who were assigned, with an interpreter, to get information from the women and children of the village. They had to go through pretty tough training, and if you want to read a book that is first-hand about a few of these women, the book is called, Ashley’s War.

Bottom line is if they can’t be held to the same expectations as a man, and standards are lowered to allow them in, then combat effectiveness will be degraded. The “trans” men or trans whatever have mental illness, so this not only degrades combat effectiveness of a unit but creates a whole host of other issues as well. Those are simple facts whether certain people can handle it or not. Look all around you, men dominate certain physical jobs for a reason. Women have had the ability to join and do those jobs for years and yet they make up a very small margin in those industries. Simple answer is most women can’t cut the mustard physically. So let’s keep worrying about people’s feelings and see how that works when we go up against China which will be the equivalent of Japan in WW2. What a joke, get out of the rear with the gear and hump around with the ground pounders for a bit.

Opening those jobs to women is just an administrative step. Women going on missions with our special operations forces has been going on for many years. They may not have had the MOS but they were cross trained or trained up for doing certain missions. When an SF Mike team goes into a village, they will take female soldiers to work with the local women. Our SEAL teams in Iraq as part of their protection detail for the Iraqi govt utilized our females to do security checks on females coming into Iraqi govt venues & facilities. And yes, females have gotten trigger time, been wounded, & even killed on these missions. They have been performing with respect & dignity for several decades.

I do find it interesting how many people have failed to address that actual question. I'd hope with officers and senior NCOs that reading comprehension would be higher than has just been displayed. He didn't ask if women have seen combat. He didn't ask about female support personnel down range that were "attached" to group or regiment. He didn't ask if any women in the specific 75th and group have seen combat. I only know of one female that served in the regiment and as far as I know she was an officer that was RFSd. I've only known of one SF female whom made it through the Q-course. Whether or not she ever saw combat I couldn't say. The question isn't about women that earned a tab or happened to get shot at in Iraq while in a support position. There are literally only a couple women he specifically asked about. Everything else that everyone is getting up in arms about is over stuff he never even asked.

A "Combat MOS" is just that isn't it? Nothing morte should need to be said. Then again, when it comes to the Army, there are many biological MALES in "Combat MOS's who I wonder if they have actually been fighting alongside MEN. In the Corps there are many WM's with breasticles that go CLANK louder than some guys. I will serve alongside ANY Marine. If I were Army, I would still do it. I would constantly watch my six though. Just had an epiphany. I wonder what branch of military invented "Fragging". I have my suspicions.

In light of some of the missions SOF may be called upon to conduct, female personnel could only enhance their capabilities. I think anyone who can meet and maintain themselves at the high standards required should be given the opportunity to serve in SOF or any other military unit.

Wait a minute! Does anyone remember Joan of Arc?? Florence Nightingale?? Just because history doesn't glorify their use of weaponry, they fought. There were women in the Civil War disguised as men who went to fight because women were excluded from service. They fought for God and Country. Remember those stupid Geneva Conventions cards with the Red Cross on them that Medics were supposed to wave at the invading hoards so they wouldn't get shot?? Are you kidding me? You think we wouldn't pick up a weapon and do what we had to? My group was one of the first medical groups that went in for M16 training when the military finally realized we all had a role in conflict to maintain safe and protect our freedoms. And, that a plastic card wasn't bullet proof

My Granddaughter was born with heart defects that required 4 open heart surgeries by the time she was 4 years old. She has been a full fledged firefire fighter since she was 18 on the New Deal, TX Volunteer Fire Dept. she teaches high angle rope rescue and serves on a rescue team. She will graduate in May with a Degree in nursing. She has filled her deer tags the last 2 years with very nice 8 point Bucks (Texas count) where I am from they are 4 point, nice none the less. The quickest way to get something done is tell this girl she can't do it. Women on the Battlefield, read about the Russian Women Snipers in WW II. While some women may be lacking a bit in physical strength, remember it only takes about 5 pounds of pressure to squeeze a trigger.

1. Napoleon won battles because he outsmarted all his opponents. And got lucky at times too. Same with Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, etc. Doesn't matter how strong you are. There are women out there who are more capable soldiers than their male counterparts because they get good at there jobs and are intelligent, plain and simple. Budica, Marina Raskova, historical examples of female warriors (or aviators in the case of Raskova) who proved their mettle.
2. The arguments about Israeli integration of women into combat arms completely ignores the fact that sexism permeates various aspects of Israeli culture, along with socio-economic stratifications that create a hierarchy of "Jewishness". These two things pretty much set up non male, non-Ashkenazi jews onto lower rungs of the political/social totem pole carte blanche.

I wasn't going to comment as the facts are present if you look for them. Women have been fighting along with and in support of men since we became a nation. Then as I read further into the comments so many are quickly getting off topic with all sorts of things that have nothing to do with this question. I have been in many unit where women were serving and functioning in the same MOS as me, quite effectively. I once actually had a woman who could carry and operate an M60 better than most of the younger men in my platoon, now if that isn't a shot to the cajones I don't what would be. If they are able to do the job and prove it to the same standards then all the better. History tells a lot of stories, if one takes the time to research it, and that seems to be lacking these days. My thoughts are; If you can do the job, then do it, if you can't then do something you can do, we all have talents and skills, just put them to good use for this nation and your brothers and sisters.

Maybe I'm reading the question wrong, but I don't see where it ask if they are 'capable', or 'should', or 'belong there'. It seems to be asking 'in the time since women have allowed in SF or Ranger training, have the ones that have completed that training been assigned combat roles?'.

Seriously . ? Women have been dying in combat a long time . Jan has a secret special ops all female unit and the are incredibly deadly , including hands and feet . When we are attacked and we will be soon with idiot boy leading, it's going to be all hands on deck for us to survive . Just fyi . We were pinned down in Iraq and a female F-18 pilot out of missles flew danger close to the deck and opened up with cannons taking out the enemy lines . She was flipping them off at the same time . She risked her own life to save ours . I'm trying to get fund raised going for statues of female hero's represented more at VA hospitals and military installations . They don't get the proper credit they deserve .

there are women though out world history that have fought well beside men & there husbands,
for example during the old west, wives would fight side by side with there husbands to defend there homes & Families.

You opened a huge shitstorm that totally changed your question from one about Ranger and Special Forces qualified women fighting alongside men to one of transgenders, the Histories by Herodotus, the Revolutionary War ,and even to Custer's defeat at Little Big Horn. Along with that it even brought up the old BS about did they even receive the same training as their male counterparts! Why can't people answer a simple question without trying to stir up the pot? My answer: I never served in combat with women SF... In my era there were no SF qualified women. Had there been, I would have had zero problem fighting along side them and expected them to act and react as all the rest of the team! These female military trailblazers deserve to be celebrated on International Women's Day — and everyday.

World War I was the first time women could join military service outside nursing and by the end of World War II, 350,000 women wore American service uniforms according to official archives.

In January 2013, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta lifted the ban on women in combat roles and gave the military two years to complete integration.

These female trailblazers are to thank for the roles women have in our armed forces today. But who are they? And how did they do it?

1.)
* First American woman to fly in combat

* Col. Martha McSally flew 2,600 flight hours, including over 325 combat hours, during her military career in the U.S. Air Force.

2.)
* First Black woman to enlist in the U.S. Army and the only known female Buffalo Soldier

Growing up, Pvt. Cathay Williams worked as a house slave in Jefferson City, Missouri, but when the Union army took the city, captured slaves were used in military support roles, according to the National Park Service.

* On Nov. 15, 1866, Williams enlisted in the U.S. Army as a man under the name William Cathay and was assigned to the 38th U.S. Infantry Regiment. She was the first Black woman to enlist in the U.S. Army.

* After contracting smallpox, and once commanding officers discovering she was a woman, Williams was discharged in 1868. NPS reports Williams went on to join the all-Black military regiment known as the Buffalo Soldiers.

* First female fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force

* Maj. Gen. Jeannie M. Leavitt began her career in 1992 by entering the U.S. Air Force.

* When restrictions for women flying combat missions were dropped in 1993, Leavitt became the Air Force’s first female fighter pilot in the McDonnell Douglas F-15E Strike Eagle. Throughout her career, Leavitt has accrued more than 3,000 hours as a command pilot, including more than 300 combat hours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
