SSG Gilleland,
After you finish Drill you will then get a report date to Jackson. You then need to get the BN to approve your 4187 to go to Ranger School enroute (they should have no problem doing this). You can start to move your family to the Jackson area then if you like but your new unit wouldn't be able to do anything for them really being you do NOT inprocess your new unit until after you complete Ranger School.
As for the leave portion I would take some leave after Drill and you out process Bliss until your Ranger School start date. During that time you can possibly find a house in the Columbia area but if you plan on living on post you can not start that process until you report to Jackson.
Maybe think of having your family stay with family for the transition time... Just some thoughts.
Hit me up via email if you want any more advice or want info

Your family goes ahead to Ft Jackson and sets up shop while you go to Benning TDY to Ranger School. You can then take leave upon arrival to Ft Jackson after Ranger school. Unless something has changed in the past few years, that's how I always understood it.

SFC B,

CSM was pushing the Ranger School part, so I am sure BN will still sign off on it. However, branch already said they would cut orders once I complete Drill School. Interesting enough talking with Drill Branch, I already have a report date of March 27th. I finish drill school on April 4th. I believe that is about six weeks before the next Ranger class report date.
I'll hit you up next time I end up on main-side.

The first ranger school date for you after drill would be 21 Apr 2014 and graduate 20 Jun 2014 (if you didnt recycle at all).
And with most report dates you can push them up to 60 days to the right. Not sure if it is the same with Drill Branch or not though.
