1 Marine killed in shooting at Camp Lejeune

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -A Marine standing guard at Camp Lejeune’s main gate Tuesday shot and killed another Marine, officials said.

The identity of the Marine killed in the 5:30 p.m. incident was not immediately released.

The U.S. Marine Corps said the incident is not being considered terrorism and there is not an active shooter on base.

The shooting is under investigation by Naval Criminal Investigative Service, the Marine Corps said.

I hate to speculate, but I am assuming that it would be over a personal issue regarding a spouse/girlfriend. That far too often is the case. I will have to look this story up. Unfortunately, we (generally speaking) fail to realize that to let go of someone or something is simply the most convenient way to make room for someone or something even better . . .

I want to believe it was a horrible accident. Marines just don't go around shooting other Marines. Need to wait until further investigation is complete.

The Marine shot was a friend of my son. He was standing guard duty so a friend of his could get married. I'm pretty sure he was in the 2nd Radio Battalion. He supposedly took an M4 round to the chest. Not sure on the details just exactly how that happened. The shooter was tried and sentenced to a short jail term (under 5 years I'm pretty sure) as it was determined to be accidental.

Stationed at Lejuene late 60’s early 70 there was activities on base and in Jville Marines pitted against other marines resulting in many injuries and a few deaths. It is always unfortunate but not uncommon.
