on some level, I get some of this....the days of unlimited funding and everyone gets promoted are over...I get that...
but I would think, from a personnel or talent management perspective...we would question what we are doing with some of our non-selects and OSB victims - not just sending them into the guard/reserve, but also putting them into GS positions (as opposed to those GS employees that have never served).
I find it hard that these people who are being separated...we have no work for them, whatsoever??

It's the old cycle of life. This draw down has been done before and before the Military has been bitten in the ass trying to recover. I just wonder with all the saber rattling, when we'll get bit again?

Sometimes people think because I am a vet I am an expert on military subjects. I have been asked on a number of occasions why is it that a million person active and reserve armed force is not sufficient to protect the US from potential threats. Some suggest we might be over committing ourselves and responding to or anticipating every thing that pops up in the world as a threat to US. Using that scenario a person could reasonably justify a 3 million person AF. Maybe, they say, there is only so much we can do and let's live within that budget. What is the best way to respond to such thoughts from our civilian peers.
