Have you Seen this Letter from a Trump Supporter?

I'm not a supporter, but I like the message that this individual is sending to Trump - we should be sending this to all the candidates!

COL Mikel J. Burroughs I like this letter its simply taking care of all Americans using our own resources. We must deal with our own problems to make America stronger. in my opinion.

I like it because we're at least doing something to take care of All Veterans... that is what most of us were promised when we enlisted, was it not... What's wrong with that.

There are plenty of Civilian jobs on all Military bases that can be done by Veterans...

I like "simple" messages.

I think our politicians are making "policies" (root word of politicians) needlessly complex.

My personal motto is "Don't overthink the problem," and I am a firm believer of approaching things from that standpoint. This letter works under that philosophy. Sure, it's not perfect. No plan is. But hell, it could be implemented in short order, with minimal guidance, and have immediate response. That's how a "plan" works. Once you have a plan, then you develop a Policy.

Our Politicians have forgotten that. They develop Policy, then try to build a Plan around it.

I don't think turning military bases into homeless veteran camps is a good idea. Much of this is naïve and overly simplistic. The sentiment of helping veterans in need is noble but veterans must also be willing to take care of themselves. We do not need to create a new victim class in this country. Not trying to be cold or callous here. Some do indeed need help but many others are simply gaming the system.

SCPO Carl Wayne Boss. Technically we have not been at war since 9/11, we have been in a protracted authorization of the use of force engagement. I know we used to call it he GWOT but we don't even call it that any longer. Obama saw to that.

I am familiar with the Barbary Pirates and our encounters with the musselman (as we called them then). It would be difficult to draw a line from 1790/1830 all the way to today and say these are all part of the same conflict. While it is a conflict with people of the same religion they are not really related.

One of the challenges the CG has had is who they roll up to in the government. It has caused a lot of the confusion about exactly what they are for many (especially civilians) . I bust my Coasty friends chops by calling them the DOT employees all the time. They remind me the are Homeland Security and I ask them how that is better, all in good fun. Usually them mention something about a Department of the Navy and I say "yes, the men's department.

You've been to the VA Hospital one more time that me then (as a patient anyway). I visit my Dad there often as he got tangled up with Agent Orange in Vietnam and id in failing health at 83 now.

Well Cpl Neely; Maybe You have difficulty "connecting" 1790/1830 with today... But Muslim/Islamists/Musselman or what ever you choose to call them don't seem to have the same "difficulty" and they've said as much... that's why they call us "Crusaders". You chose the believe the present day is not related to our past encounters and quibble over whether we're "technically" at war or not... The fact is... that whether we call it war or NOT...thousands of people are dying all over the globe because of these Islamic yahoos... they're on a mission and you may as well get used to it.

As far as DHS goes... I believe it's actually a better place for us than DOT was, before that, the USCG was part of the Dept. of Treasury instead of Transportation. Homeland Security (DHS) is just a conglomeration or an amalgam, of ALL Federal Law Enforcement Agencies under one big Umbrella agency. Most of whom don't get along and waste a lot of time protecting their "turf".

When I went to the VA, it was to hand off some Official Paper work and hand over some Medical Records after a couple People on one of my Crews that came back from the "Sand Box" in 1993 or so, I was actually there as My Units XPOIC and Admin Officer, took the opportunity to ask some questions about my ails while I was there... but was never actually a Patient.

Like I said, I know the VA's resources are scarce as it is and I have good Medical Insurance from my Fire Dept. job, so there's is no sense in me unnecessarily burdening a system that's already overtaxed, there are plenty of our Brothers (like your Dad) and Sisters that really need help and have no where else to go to get it. Are we Clear!

You spend as much time as you can with your Dad... I lost my Dad who was one of the first WWII Navy Sea Bees in 2010, just a few months before I retired, he didn't make it to his 82nd Birthday, Lung Cancer got him.

SCPO Carl Wayne Boss . I personally believe we are in a global war against radical islamists. My point is our current government/administration does not. They will not even call them radical islamists. The wars between major religions have been going on for a long time. Most religions have ceased and desisted from active conflict with each other except radical islamists. Their goal is global domination through a caliphate. They will reach that goal or die trying. We should be doing more to help them with the latter.

We agree the VA resources are scarce and woefully inadequate for the job they have to do. That is why I am so annoyed at those that seek to gain access they don't really need/didn't earn but want because it gets them a benefit. It takes resources from those really in need. The military/DOD is starting to look more like a benefits dispensing machine that a war fighting organization but that is just one guys opinion.

Appreciate the candor and the conversation SCPO.
