WOW!  Times are a changing!

In an unprecedented move, President Obama has appointed Christine Fox, the Pentagon's former chief program and budget analyst, to serve as acting deputy defense secretary while the search continues for a candidate to fill the position on a full-time basis.

When she replaces Ash Carter, who steps down Wednesday after two years on the job, she will become the senior-most woman to hold a DoD post.

I really wish we would stop tying race/gender into these things... If you did something exceptionally well, wouldn't it bother you that your accomplishment is now just being touted as a racial/gender fluff piece? Let's celebrate her ACCOMPLISHMENT, not just gender.

We can't keep talking about EO this, and EO that, but then make a point of actively pointing out peoples genders/races/colors, etc... Celebrate PEOPLE, not labels.

Sorry... pet peeve...

So this is just another Acting Deputy Secretary of Defense new story?

This is a historic breakthrough for women in the Department of Defense...it should be so recognized.

Actually SSG Hasbun EO training provides training regarding discrimination in certain areas, not advancements in history. This is monumental, so it does deserve the recognition. The two are in no way even remotely the same.

To me, EO means everyone is to be regarded the same, one standard. You are not a label, you are not your race, you are not your gender, you are a person. Your succeses are YOURS. Your failings are YOURS. You and you alone are to be commended or counseled on your actions.

.

If tomorrow I save a burning bus full of nuns (or babies, whatever your preference), then that is MY accomplsihment, it is not a milestone for whatever my gender/ethnicity is.

.

Celebrating genetics is silly. We might as well start celebrating first blonde/brunette/redhead to do something.
