1755 – British captured Fort Beausejour and expelled the Acadians.

The Accadians of Nova Scotia were uprooted by an English governor and forced to leave. Some 10,000 people moved to destinations like Maine and Louisiana. Some moved to Iles-de-la-Madeleine off Quebec. The Longfellow story “Evangeline” is based on this displacement.

I remember learning about this whole taking a tour in New Orleans.. I was surprised to hear the NO French were displaced from Nova Scotia.

Dang it! I missed by a day! Also on this day in 1973, 1SG Private RallyPoint Member, I was commissioned a second lieutenant in the USAR! It's noteworthy only to me, of course, but I just wanted to add to the significance of the day! :)
