When was the last time you had a meet and greet with a WWII veteran?

RallyPoint meet Sergeant John E. Walker Sr of Virginia Beach, Virginia (Truck Driver 1941-45) a WWII Veteran. I met him at the Hampton Medical Center Veteran Affairs. It was an honor, especially on D-Day(Anniversary). WWII Veterans are a dime a dozen, please greet and meet them if you have the time. If you have some stories RP, please share of these brave, honorable Veterans that paved the way.

I have this honor on a somewhat regular basis when they come aboard the USS Iowa.
Here's me in 2014 with a Tuskegee Airman - Lt. Col. Robert Friend

Blowing up the picture and taking a closer look, you're right, gig line is straight! :)
But your shirt isn't very well tucked in. Haven't you ever heard of shirt stays? LOL!!!

PO1 John Miller - Heh the scourge of my time in the Navy, I have a long torso and finding shirts that were long enough was nigh impossible. Plus I've put on a few pounds since my EAOS which doesn't help.
Now of course they no longer make dungaree shirts and I have exactly 2 that fit remotely well and look decent. I actually wash them on delicate and hang dry them.

Awesome SFC. But that dime a dozen are getting more and more rare. And one day it'll be us. Hopefully we'll be remembered with as much fondness as the WWII vets, and respected as much as most of us respect the Nam vets. How come you weren't at Parade Rest talking to him?

SSG Warren Swan - Warren, at the risk of sounding hyperbolic, I'd sit with you in any bar, anywhere, anytime. Maybe when we go back to the ship I'd take umbrage at you looking at my rack incorrectly, but I assure you, while we were at that bar...no motherfucker is looking at you wrong without consequences.

SN Greg Wright - Your rack = steel coffin with one side off. Ain't NO WAY I'd fit in one of those. From what I've seen, I don't see how anyone over six feet can sleep in that. Give me a cot any day. But same holds for you. I can be at the bar chillin drinking my Shirley Temple. It would suck to be all of us in the end, but it would be one hell of a night to remember. My personal theme song:

Probably in the late 50s or early 60s, quite a few still on subs. As I recall, we thought they were old guys, now I have a better idea of what an old guy is.
