20 year NG letter?

how do I obtain my 20 year letter? I did 9 years NG then enlisted into Regular army for 12 years after. Am I still eligible for NG retirement?

Sadly, no. You aren't eligible for retirement from the guard. This situation is exactly why I won't go back to active duty. I hope you weren't counting on the retirement.

I know of only 1 individual who went into the Army Reserves at an advanced age, and he was accepted due to the skills and experience as a Physician and Radiologist. He had to sign a waiver on Retirement to be allowed and that would be almost 30 years ago at this point. Your best place to inquire would be with the TAG for the State National Guard that lost you to active service and get their reading on the issue. TAG = The Adjutant General. A NG Personnel Specialist may be able to assist you in some regards towards finding out.

Unfortunately, if you didn’t finish your career in a reserve component, you won’t be issued a 20 year NOE, nor are you eligible for a non-regular retirement. Speaking as a Retirement Services NCO here. If you are still able to, I would find a recruiter and reenlist with a RC. Just an idea.
