Why have Native American veterans been made exempt from copays regardless of their disability percentage? I served 20 years in the USAF including in Vietnam, yet I still have to pay a copay for my medications from the VA. This is not fair!

Why is it so hard for us to get community care referrals when the care is not available? We follow the rules congress put out but yet VA makes their own rules. When someone asks for help for mental health or substance use services they should get it then and not when it is convenient for VA. Private insurances gets you that access so why dont veterans have the same? VA says "high quality care" which should include fast access if you are such high quality.

Why does the VA not have a burn pit registry for all the firefighters that were exposed to the old CB and other firefighting agents. Also fire instructors that were station at Chanute AFB, that went into training fires that burnt contaminated JP4 with out any air oak?

Why does the Veterans Experience Office never, ever, ever, help veterans? I have contacted them several times about ongoing problems that I am having with the VA, and they have resolved none of them. All of my problems are still ongoing. All they do is say that they will pass my concerns on to VA leadership, then I never hear anything else again.

The VA established relationships with outside vendors to coordinate care with medical specialists to give veterans access to care in their respective communities. This SHOULD result in more efficient and faster access - a good thing for veterans. The problem is these vendors often do not consider the needs of the veteran. Some won't even contact the veteran in advance. They schedule visits without knowledge of the vet's availability or ability to attend the visit. These same vendors then report the Vet as a "no-show" causing denial of claims, etc. THIS IS A DISSERVICE TO VETS! What will be done for more Quality Control and validation of these vendors (especially Veterans Evaluation Services (VES) of Texas).

I had lost my DD214 long form after the 9/11 war and for the last 15 years I have been trying to get a new one. Archives does not have a copy, only the short form and the VA hasn't been able to help. I live on the border of CT & RI. I used to get all of my care from the Providence RI VAMC. Then I realized that there is a CPOC that I could go to for primary care down in New London Connecticut, which is 30 minutes from me. They happen to be affiliated with the West Haven VAMC (1.5 hours away). As a consequence, my care is split between two VAMC’s. The MAJOR PROBLEM is that each VAMC is its own entity! This has been a big issue for me because one VAMC can NOT see a record of what the other VAMC did! The VA needs to have a system that breaks down the barriers of each VAMC and allows each VAMC to see what another is doing to care for a particular veteran. You may get word that there is a way to do this, but it is so antiquated and non-user friendly that MANY of your VAMC staff don’t know how to use it! Believe me, I know this for a fact!

Just wondering if illnesses that are service connected but under control with medications will be revisited by the VA automatically or will the Agent Orange victims that received low ratings such as 10% or even 0% in some cases have to refile in order to receive fair compensation for life threating. Conditions that we have been forced to take medications for many years just to reduce the risk of strokes etc. The necessary information should already be in the records to fix the issue without more waisted time and resources.

I have a active claim that was denied and even reduced rating because the VA used information off of a Va appointment in 2018 instead of a recent C&P exam provided for skin scars and condition caused by the mandatory anthrax vaccine long term side effects I want to appeal and filled out the form to request the information they used for their decision my scars are worse not better like the report says they are. I received a letter saying it with be months before I get an answer to my questions and was submitted in august. My question is why does it take so long to get a reply to something they just used to lower my rating ?

I am out of the Durham NC VA region. I have several benefical travel claims submitted, going back to May 2023, no action has been taken on them? When I call the number to question the status, I get a message stating the mailbox is full. At my last appointment in Greenville NC, I was told by the receptionist that they were basically not paying, because of lack of help????? That is unbelievable!!!

In 1998, Canada negotiated an agreement with the US to cover the expenses of
cleaning up old US military sites in Canada, such as the bases attached to Goose Bay.
Even though the estimated remediation costs range up to a billion dollars, Canada
asked the US for $252 million and accepted a $100 million offer. The US Department of
Defense was aware of this issue as early as 1985-1990 and paid a minimum of $100
million to assist in the cleanup. Cartwright AFB, the 922nd ACW site, was part of the
Goose Bay defense and early warning system. The US DOD has military records of all
personnel who served on these sites, including Cartwright AFB. It remains unclear why
the US military didn't notify any of the personnel about tha the hazards and consequences of
exposure, or why no attempt has been made to warn them.

Can we stop using veterans as guinea pigs?!?! I just had a same day surgery and had multiple surgeons most who were there for training...on me. When you are face down on an OR table it is very scary to here "oh, I went to far" when needles are being dug around in the back of your neck and upper back. There has to be a better way! Notification at the very minimum of ongoing training.

Dear Secretary McDonough, please help us who are West Michigan Veterans!? The Director & staff at Ft. Custer National Cemetery refuse to dedicate one of the new sections to upright grave markers. He says only flat markers are allowed. Please remember we are in “the Chicago Snowbelt.” A number of fellow veterans have buried at Great Lakes on the other side of the state because of this. According to the 50th Anniversary Vanguard magazine, a number of other National Cemeteries allow both types of markers- please help us Old Vietnam Veterans in this last battle! Why is the Community Care system so hard to use. I’ve been in the system for 33 years and have never encountered the issues I have been dealing with, like referrals only lasting a year when some of the issues are ongoing. Why am I responsible for keeping up with them. I have a life and other appts to deal with. I’m surely not stupid, but Community Care is sometimes very hard to navigate. I can see vets with no computer experience or ability to navigate the system having trouble. Also, the Travel Pay program is another issue but that’ll be for another day.

The travel benefits does not work in my area. It takes a long time to submit because it does not help at all and if a mistake is made it denies the claim after many weeks. It is a hardship not to receive travel pay. Are you aware that the program is not working for everyone?

This is the type of question that may get a response, but never receives any action. I've written letters and made calls, and all I get is something like ... good to know or we will pass along your concerns. I've been using VA Health Care in Saint Joseph, Michigan since early 2017. They only have one doctor assigned to that location, and many of us aren’t under a doctor’s care because only one doctor is available. They never get another permanent doctor assigned to that location. I had a doctor assigned to me one time for about three months, but that doctor left. When I called in the past asking to see someone for a concern ... I was told to go to the ER because there aren't outpatient facilities contracted by VA in this area. We always hear about all the great improvements, but inferior healthcare still exists in many areas. I now have to travel for 45 minutes (1 ½ hour round trip) to get VA Heath Care from a doctor. I recently transferred to a VA Facility in Indiana because I can't get local care from any facility, except ER, in Saint Joseph, Michigan. HOW COME THIS IS ALLOWED TO CONTINUE, AND NO ONE HAS TAKEN ACTION FOR YEARS???

The VA Compensation and pension (C&P) exam structure is broken. The VA is referring too many C&P exams to private medical facilities where complex illnesses are being adjudicated by medical staff without expert knowledge in that particular field. for example, my VA podiatrist made a medical finding yet when the VA requested a C&P exam to verify the findings, A nurse practitioner employed by the private facility contradicted the findings of the podiatrist. These types of mistakes results in the veteran submitting appeals and having the case placed in undue delays. so when I requested a subsequent C&P exams be conducted by a medical doctor, the exam was shelved and placed in an indefinite hold as if to punish me for making such a request.

Is it possible to have a rating increase posthumously? My husband passed away in July 2019 from complications of Parkinson’s before the BWN Act was implemented. VA awarded him 80% when I (his spouse) filed for benefits. Why weren’t his benefits retroactive to 2012 when he first filed? There is very little help for survivors.

Disabled Veterans are being paid slightly above the poverty line. Why aren’t veterans with service connection allowed supplemental income. Like access to SNAP benefits etc. Currently housing/rent is $100 less than my pension. How are we supposed to survive. But billions going overseas to help fight a war that is not our own.

When will Panama Veterans be recognized for their herbicide exposures? We have the same diseases as Vietnam Veterans, there is documentation herbicides were used and shipped to Panama. There are Agent Orange Drums being used to block people from driving to the beach in the old enlisted housing area at Fort Sherman, Panama. These can be seen on Google Earth on Street View in the housing area. I had direct exposure to Agent Orange and have MM. My claim denied with the VA saying, "Yes, your MM is a result of herbicide; just not there." THEN WHERE???? Is it because over 400,000 veterans could be affected?

VHA patient +25 years. Prescribed Opioids for 20 years. VHA policy change does not account for chronic pain patients. Now waiting +700 days for VBA to finish a claim so VHA can render treatment. Even though PCP say I am under-rated and my Problem needs updated, he can not do anything to update my rating. Why can't there be a more efficient way for LONG Term VA patients to have File/Ratings claims more efficiently processed? Why did you leave your long term chronic pain patients hanging with the Opioids policy change? I have lost my job, house, savings, and future since you left US vets hanging out to dry. And why, when a VA employee make a horrible "Mistake" and causes a Veteran to have to wait years to resolve a claim and finally get proper treatment, why is it only the Veteran that suffers and there is ZERO recognition and accountability from the VA? One employee can do so much damage, can wreck a life, and nothing happens. WHY?

HOWEVER, WITH THE 2004 NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIATION ACT CONGRESS CREATED THE CRDP (CONCURRENT RECEIPT OF MILITARY RETIRED PAY AND VA DISABILITY COMPENSATION WITH NO REDUCTION OR WAIVER OF EITHER PAUY.) THIS LAW COMPLETELY ELIMINATED ANY LEGAL AUTHORITY TO GARNISH VA DISABILKTY COMPENSATION FOR DISABLED MILITARY RETIREES WHO WERE 50% OR MORE DISABLED, BECAUSE THEY NO LONGER HAD TO "WAIVE" ANY OF THEIR RTIRED PAY TO RECEIVE VA DISABILITY CONPENSATION, THEREFORE THERE WAS NO LONGER ANY "WAIVED RETIRED PAY" TO BE GARNISHED.
WITH THE PASSAGE OF THIS LAW, DFAS IMMEDIATELY COMPLIED WITH IT AND RESTORED ALL OF MY NAVY RETIRED PAY, HOWEVER VA NEVER DID COMPLY WITH THE NEW LAW!!! THEY CONTINUED TO PERMIT THE GARNISHMENT OF $910 A MONTH OF MY VA DISABILITY COMPENWATION FOR TEN MORE YEARS UNTIL THE DEATH OF MY FORMER SPOUSE FOR A TOTAL OF $109,200 WHEN THERE WS NO LEGAL AUTHORITY FOR THAT GARNISHMENT. THERE WAS STIlL LEGAL AUTHORITY TO GARNISH MILITARY RETIRED PAY AND THEY COULD HAVE GARNISHED THAT BUT THEY CHOSE TO CONTINUE GARNISHING MY VA DISABILITY COMPENSTION WHEN THRE WAS NO LEGAL AUTHORITY TO DO THAT!!!!

I HAVE FILED NUMEROUS CLAIMS ON THIS ISSUE AND VA REFUSES TO ADDRSS THIS ISSUE. THEY INSTEAD DEFAULT TO SOME IMPERTINENT, IRRELEVANT, AND IMMATERIAL ISSUE TO AVOID RULING ON MY ISSUE. Why isn't VA "travel pay" done automatically when you check in to your VA appointments?

Travel pay was made easy when it was put onto the "Check in kiosks". Travel pay has been screwed up ever since it was taken off of the kiosk and put on its own website.
Why did the VA take something that was very simple on the kiosks to make it more difficult for Veterans to ever get their travel pay?
I understand that the VA has recently completely stopped using the kiosk check-in system which cost the VA millions of dollars to first implement many years ago. In that way, it sort of makes sense to access "travel pay" in a different manner, but VA travel pay was taken off the kiosks back in 2019 and the VA only recently stopped using the kiosks in 2023.

Getting travel pay has been nearly impossible to get ever since 2019. The "travel pay" website is horrible, difficult to access/log into, difficult to use, and the website ALWAYS has issues. On the rare chance that you can login to the "travel pay" website, veterans never get the "travel pay" for any of the appointments entered into the "travel pay" system on the "travel pay" website. Making matters worse is that many of the more "Elder" Veterans don't even use the internet. As a result, a large part of the Veterans population now can't get and have not received any travel pay since the VA took "travel pay" off of the "Check in" Kiosks back in 2019.
I, for example, have only received a grand total of $0.10 in "travel pay" since the travel pay system was removed from the VA's check in kiosks back in 2019. I’ve had a travel pay account set up since the VA gave me the information on it back in 2019 but I wasn't able to gain access to the travel pay website after I set up my travel pay account there. With the constant “Travel pay” website issues I wasn’t even able to gain access to my account on the VA travel pay website until earlier this year 2023. Once I could finally get into my account again this year (2023), I went back as far as was allowed and put in every appointment at the VA as well as every appointment outside of the VA through the VA's Community care program. Doing this process of having to enter every appointment took several days to complete. Since then, I have received 2 payments of $0.05 each for a grand total of $0.10.

The VA has multiple temperamental websites that Veterans need to deal with to gain access to various VA programs (like the travel pay website & my healthy vet) but the VA should put everything at a single point of access on the "My healthy vet" (http://www.myhealth.va.gov) website platform instead of spreading access over multiple logins (Login.gov, ID.me, DS Logon, or My HealtheVet) and multiple websites.

The VA should also make travel pay so it is done automatically whenever you check in to your VA appointments at any VA facility. The only reason a veteran should need to input any of their travel pay is whenever they get treatment outside of the VA like with the VA Comuity Care program.

Why is the VA so slow in responding to inquiries? When I do get a response, it is severely lacking as if they didn't even take the time to read it. I am retired AF with a nerve disorder that keeps me from working and they only gave me a 25% disability rating. I submitted for a higher level review of my claim 3 months ago and still no responses. I am in the 15th month since my initial claim was submitted. The VA needs to do much better for us veterans!

When will all veterans that traveled abroad be added to the Pact Act? My dad served in Panama where that was indisputable herbicide use. He died at 69 from, pulmonary fibrosis and multiple cancers, suffered a massive heart attack at 47 and had many other presumptive conditions but can’t get recognition because Panama was removed from the Pact Act at the last minute.

Why can we not choose paperless correspondence with the VA, especially for appointments? When I make an appointment at my VA the scheduler wants to print my appointment list. I ask them not to because I know they will send a letter via Postal Service, send weekly email reminders, send a card via Postal Service and text me. All I would like are emails and text messages. How much does the VA spend on printing those appointment lists, and sending letters and cards? It's not just the cost of the medium and the ink, but the time it takes for someone to do the printing, sorting, mailing (and the postage costs), etc. I realize not every veteran would choose a paperless option but a great number would and eventually totally be paperless as the older veterans passed on.

2. Why do the lobbies have a morbid feeling of cattle waiting for slaughter?
3. What are the systems in place to facilitate a more efficient processing of disability claims at local offices? My son waited approximately 5 month for his initial claims to be filled, he then resorted in going to another city for service. It took almost a year for his claims to be finished.

Why does it take so long for things to go through community care. I understand if it took a week or two but three and four months is a long wait. Sometimes it’s longer. I have to maintain private insurance because the majority of the workers (nurses and doctors) don’t care. Atlanta VA system is a joke

When are they going to quit penalizing us retirees for being less than 50% disability? They deduct the exact amount of our VA disability payment from our retirement checks unless you are 50% or greater disability. However, If I wasn’t retired, I’d be getting that VA disability check no matter what percentage of disability I was getting.

I would like to submit a question to Patricia Sweeney. The VA was very quick to jump aboard and give Covid shots. Notice I did not call them vaccines because we all know they did not prevent Covid. My question is how many Veterans had negative affects, illnesses , adverse events and how many deaths due to the shots given from the VA. How many were reported in Vaers? I would love to see a very accurate list of how many adverse reactions and what the adverse reactions were. How many deaths were directly attributed to the vaccines and how many deaths in general within 30 days of getting the vaccines. Also, why would the VA even promote and give these unproven shots that were rushed though the system without adequate testing?

The question I would like to ask about is "Why does it take so long to get an answer on Veterans Appeal."? As a surviving spouse I need the help of that benefit to make ends meat, with costs rising it is very hard on one paycheck which is SSD.

Is it sensible to submit for an increase in my disability rating? I am 70% rated with un employability which gives me the 100% benefit. My cancer has returned and have been under treatment that will continue for the foreseeable future.

I was diagnosed with a 10 percent hearing loss at separation in 1979. I was told then that to follow threw on the claim would take thirty days which would put me 15 days over my deros time and i would be confined to the barracks till my claim was settled.(Fort Jackson). Like a fool I choose to separate and leave. I am 66 now and have been recommended to get hearing aids now. Can i follow up a claim to the VA that is this old?

Why is the VA intentionally giving veteran the "song-n-dance-routine" now going on almost two years after filing TWO complete sets of Dental billing information with VA Form 10-583 Claim For Payment of Cost of Unauthorized Dental Services. A patient advocate presumably located in Washington DC or in the local area told this veteran on 12/12/2022 to submit the packet to Medical/Dental, VHA Office of Community Care, P.O. Box 30780, Tampa, FL 33630-3780, which was the WRONG location. This location wrongfully discarded the package without sending it back to sender and marked incorrect location. The 2nd packet was resent on advice from another Patient Advocate in Tampa, FL. who instructed me to send it to the VA Consolidated Payment Center, P.O. Box 320394, Flowood , MS 39232. This 2nd packet was sent on 3/14/2023 and it is now 10/26/2023 and I have NOT received any response back. Since the 2nd packet was never returned to sender, I have to assume this location intentionally destroyed the entire packet without my knowledge and consent.

I attempted to use the "ask.va.gov" and received the same "song-n-dance routine" responses. The inquiries were assigned #A-20 [login to see] 69 dated 8/14/2023 and #A-20 [login to see] 73 dated 8/4/2023.

Will someone/anyone please tell me where I can submit these dental expenses for DIRECT payment without any more "song-n-dance-routine" DELAYS????????????????????

I am a Disabled Veteran and although I recognize who you were I said nothing to you. If the VA system is aware of the importance and benefits of increasing access for Veterans to participate in adapted sports than why aren't the programs being supported to allow this? The VA implementated the idea of whole health yet the Recreation and Creative Arts Therapy programs are unable to expand/provide additional staff to allow increased access for Vets and improve overall programming. I worked as a Recreation Therapist for the VA for years and the department had constant turn over and a high rate of burn out during my time of employment, which increased my pain/service related injuries. I ended up having to have a disectomy/fusion and now have permanent nerve damage after the VA not properly treating and diagnosing symptoms for more than 10 years (I finally got diagnosed and treated properly when I got hired at the VA and could use other health insurance/doctors to be treated) I was then was fired from my position as a Recreation Therapist for not being able to maintain a 40 hour position after having neck surgery. As a disabled Veteran and having worked with many Veterans over the years I understand that the need for these programs is very beneficial but with my experience the support from the VA is not where it should be. I feel as if I could still be employed and able to maintain my position as a Recreation Therapist if the VA supported this role more (and disabled Veterans) What is the current plan in place that will allow Veterans increased access to participate in adaptive sports? How is the VA ensuring disabled Veterans are being treated properly and not brushed off due to providers/neurologists just thinking Vets only want an "increase in service connection"?

I am a traditional reservist of 33 years. I was never on orders longer than 180 days so I "apparently" do not qualify for VA disability benefits, yet I was constantly working with JP 4, JP-8, MIBK, and loads of other chemicals. Why? How can I qualify?

I am using VR&E. I have not been paid since June. However, I have been going to school full time since the beginning of this year. I have tried emailing and calling multiple times a week since September. I have still not received help. No one replies to the emails. No one answers the phone or calls you back after you leave a voicemail. Why is this system so jacked up? If these resources are so important to vets. Why are they only working Mon-Fri when clearly they cannot keep up with the demand. If they are overworked then why are we not hiring more people to help reduce the workload? I should not have to send dozens of emails and calls with zero responses. This is unacceptable. You send us to war with the ease and swiftness. Yet, when we require assistance it's a slow, painful process. Most veterans just move on without the help. Those that can't, end up taking the permanent route to ending the pain. We have to do better!

In February 2022, the VA announced they were proposing updates to the rating criteria for respiratory, auditory, and mental disorders. There has been no update since then. How long does it normally take for these updates to happen? Or when is it expected these updates will be implemented?

Why does the VA pay for any "elective surgery"? Valuable dollars are being spent on elective surgery that would be better used for veterans that have service connected, often combat related disabilities that are repeatedly denied.
How do you justify declaring a veteran as having hypertension due to Agent Orange exposure but awarding zero percent disability. Am I supposed to stop taking my HTN medications so my blood pressure goes through the roof to receive the compensation that Congress declared we were entitled to?

After a 13 year fight, I was awarded service connection by Veterans Law Judge for lung disease. During rating, Nashville Regional Office rated me at 0% claiming that I’m on no medication, and it has no effect on my life. In actuality I’m on 26 prescriptions including 4 monthly injections of 2 antibodies and 4 inhaled medications. Also enrolled in lung rehab and on SSDI. I requested a rating correction and they considered it as a brand new case, and now have been waiting another 2 years just to have my rating corrected. WHY!!!!

Why is that every time I've contacted the VA through it's various contacts and forms that I never get a reply from the VA, even on Rally Point? For over three years now I was denied access to any VAMC in my area. No accommodations were allowed. I can't wear a mask. Despite the mantra I heard every time I talked to any of my doctors "Studies Show,..." Unlike those at the VA, I actually read the studies. Studies going back 2002. During that time my PCP has been changed numerous times, I don't even know who my PCP is now. The only contact I have with the Dallas VAMC is the call I get once a week through the MedTronic program. Thanks to the VA North Texas Healthcare Systems no mask no entry no exceptions policy my heart function is down to 15 percent. IOW's I am dying and the VA doesn't care.

Many young working, career-driven spouses have had to give up their careers in order to be a stay-at-home Full-Time VA Caregiver to their 100% Permanent & Totally disabled spouses, and often to their children as well. Many of these spouse are the only parent who can drive, do the household coordination and account management, medical coordination for their SM, as well as having to care for themselves before burnouts. These Full time VA spouse caregivers can no longer work and hold a job due to the situation their spouse’s disability which means they fully depend on the income of their disabled Veteran and have no sole income of their own anymore. For this category of caregivers who have student loans, can not afford to pay since their household incomes are now single incomes and significantly lower leading such individuals to ask for deferments year after year. For caregivers whose SM spouse have small children with whom take more care than teens, and the disabled SM care, this deferment puts the caregiver and their spouse in a large financial predicament carrying these students loans years and years longer than planned; particularly for families where they had been successfully paying them monthly for years up until the tragic event which caused the Caregiver to have to be put into a full time situation. SO… WHAT IS THE VA CONSIDERING AND/or ACTIVELY WORKING ON DOING FOR THESE HIGH LEVEL TIERED CAREGIVERS WHO ARE IN A FILL TIME CAREGIVING SITUATION, FOR THE MEDICALLY ILL AND INJURED VETERANS WHO MUST CONTINUE TO UNDERGO MEDICAL TREATMENTS AND THERAPY BECAUSE OF THEIR ILLNESS AND INJURIES, WHERE THE CAREGIVER HAS HAD TO FOREGO THEIR FULL-TIME CAREER/ JOB POSITION AND SALARY, HAS A PROVEN HISTORY WHERE THE CAREGIVER HAD HISTORICALLY PAID ON THEIR STUDENT LOANS TO PAY THEM OFF, BUT ARE NOW IN A HOLDING PATTERN LONGTERM DUE TO THE TRAGEDY AND NECESSARY COMMITMENT-NEEDED TO CARE FOR THEIR SPOUSE AND THEIR FAMILY AND CAUSED THEM, AND CANNOT PAY OFF THEIR STUDENT LOANS BECAUSE OF LOW INCOME DIE TO SURVIVAL SOLELY ON THEIR DISABLED VETERANS INCOME FOR THE FAMILY? Disable veterans have an ability to have their loans deferred, it what about the spouses who have to care for the severely ill and injured?
