Should schools ban books because some parents do not agree with the content? Or should schools teach opposing ideas?

PO3 (Join to see) - The problem with banning books is that information is denied and under-reported. Things like mutilations, honor killings and human rights violations can be swept under the rug. As well, science, any science, should be able to withstand scrutiny and criticism. And religion that is mandated to the exclusion of others leave a student wondering what they are missing. 1LT Sandy Annala
Never take anyone else's words as fact without first checking out what they said to you. All viewpoints are valuable. At CERN, the Higgs Boson may have been proven but even at that, certain particle physicists disagree with theoretical physicists. Unless we truly debate and struggle with evidence then the truth may be a lie or miscalculation.

1LT Sandy Annala Thanks for the article, you can also get monthly magazines online about what is happening and why. As I recall the first run-up damaged a lot of the magnets and mirrors and they said that everything should be fine. However particle collisions as there are near the speed of light. I also remember in that movie I think Angels and Demons that their issue that an anti mass weapon may be possible. It is desirable to understand this more thoroughly or an alien invasion could be the least of our problems. lol. <At least it would be fast>
On a different note, we had the discussion concerning Climate Change but I feel cause and effect to be mixed and matched and many scientists take this information to forecast an end of the planet scenario or something close to it. Capricious ventures into particle physics could create some kind of issue and it may be dire.

1LT Sandy Annala My daughter a few years ago was questioning about the discovery of America and it could have been a tall Chinese man and his crew. When asked why that this story claimed a white guy (more or less) was credited, I told her, "societies many times create their histories through the lens of their own race and that these claims are more urban legend in many cases.

Well, here in Coventry, RI we'd be burning and banning the Google Chrome Books. This year our high school and middle school have officially gone paperless and textbook-less with every student being assigned a Chrome Book. All assignments, lessons and "books" come from the cloud.
Schools need to teach children to think as LTC Paul Labrador points out. This will lead them to form their own opinions, especially on controversial topics. Parents have debated school curriculum since time immemorial and that debate will continue especially with the growing schism in religion vs. science. As long as students are exposed to different points of views and not spoon fed then IMHO, the system is working.

MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca I am sure many schools would ban Rush's books and out of the other side of their mouths, decry censorship.. lol
