25 June is a few days away. Are there any Korean War Veterans wanting to share their experiences in a war that started on 06/25/1950??

All the US Army had in Korea were 500 military advisors to President Syngman Rhee 25 June was a Sunday so the next day as we woke and drove to work the radio was blaring about the Korean Peninsula being in a state of war and the US had promised to help. Many WWII Veterans and Reservists immediately volunteered to fight in Korea. But the Army Troops in Japan were the first to land in Korea.

Sgt Tom Cunnally In addition to that; in April of 1954, I recall walking in the rain to the Post Office at Ft Knox to file my income tax forms, almost late as usual!

CSM Charles Hayden - Did you contribute some big bucks for the Presidential Campaign??
I was a Pfc in 1954 & probably earned $1200.00 a year & had a $18.75 US Savings Bond taken out of my pay each month. I got a draft notice in 1956 & mailed it back to the Draft Board .

Sgt Tom Cunnally - As I have earlier posted, I did contribute BIG BUCKS, 27 each for Bernie. Anything to prevent HRC from being elected.
My order for a dozen, 'Make America Great Again', (red), and the Trump signs for the front and back of my house are due out and should arrive shortly. Given an address in MA, I will send you a cap.

My father was one of the troops in Japan that got sent to Korea. One of the units that he was a member of was the 27th Infantry Regiment a part of the 25th Infantry Division at the time. This was one of the units that followed immediately after Task Force Smith. I also had an uncle that was serving in the Marine Corps at the time as an aircraft mechanic, I am not sure when he got sent to Korea.

Task Force Smith had @540 troops from the 21st Infantry & arrived in Korea on 5 July 1950 & were given the mission to slow down the two North Korean Regiments with 33 tanks. They were badly beaten. A week later Marine Recon teams from the cruiser Juneau got involved in Korea. They used a whale boat to go ashore south of Songin & began to lay explosives in railroad tunnels and detonated the charges which slowed down the NKPA trains.

Sgt Tom Cunnally - Thanks. I am pretty well versed on some aspects of the Korean Conflict (War). The one item that I have worked on in the past is the relationship between the 29th Infantry Regiment and the 27th Infantry Regiment during the war. From my understanding my father actually served in both regiments due to the number of casualties on the Pusan Perimeter. Battalions of the 29th Infantry were attached to both the 24th and 25th Divisions. Some of the historical aspects of some of the actions during the beginning of the war is still not understood or written about in a coherent manner.

SSG Robert Webster - In the first few weeks in Korea The U.S. had only the 24th Infantry Div, the 25th Infantry Divi and the 1st Cavalry from Japan with 39,00 men who were not ready for combat. Chesty Puller wrote in his memoirs that the Army was not physically or psychologically fit for combat when they were being squeezed into the southeastern corner of Korea. He was reading reports coming back from Marine Recon who were on the ground and monitoring what was going on. Chesty was very worried when the war in Korea broke out in June 1950 because the Marines only had 74,279 men and women on active duty.
However there was some good news; the US Army made a stand at the Naktong River outside the town of Masan and American planes began destroying bridges and railroads to slow down the NKPA...Gen Kean also led the 35th Infantry and 5th Regimental Combat Team into battle in August 1950 & the US now had 47,000 troops in Korea.
But the Marines were on their way and they formed the 1st Brigade in Pendleton and El Toro CA under the command of Brig Gen Craig but he had many senior officers who had combat experience in WWII with Col Chesty Puller , & Col Ray Murray, leading the ground regiments

Your father was probably involved in the defense of Pusan. But the NKPA began to get overextended & the U.S. Army did break out from this area in Korea. Then they pushed the North Koreans back to around Seoul Korea which was the center for some heavy fighting in September 1950.

Hard to believe it has been 66 years since Korea exploded and Gen Mac Arthur was faced with a disaster like Dunkirk in WWII when the US was forced to the Pusan Peninsula..
On Sunday 25 June 1950, eight North Korean divisions led by Russian T-34 tanks crossed the 38th Parallel and invaded South Korea. The UN convened on Sunday afternoon in NYC & Truman decided to react & appointed Gen MacArthur to use his forces in Korea.
