What are the civilian aviation opportunities like?

So I still have a decent amount of time before my ETS or re-up window, but I was wondering what the actual civilian job opportunities for aviation actually are. I have yet to see an aviation contractor younger than the age of about 40 years of age. While in I plan to get my A&P license, but most 15 series attempt and get it which makes me credit its validity, being is it something that is almost required with no gain besides putting myself on the same playing field as my peers, or if I can make it without it.

Yes, I am Sgt, and I've got five to go. I ask out of concern for myself and my well being when the time comes. I'm sure you've heard the stories of the automatic 6 figure jobs that come to us in aviation, I was wondering where they actually are. As enlisted personnel, with exception to those who do their twenty years, the contractor jobs seem to be in favor of everyone else in our field, I.E. retired maintainers and crew chiefs, Embry Riddle graduates, and so forth.

My statement was not meant to be taken negatively more so the fact that the jobs out there for aviation mechanics involve years of aviation mechanic experience and for someone so young to be asking a question like this baffles me. But to answer your question on where the jobs are it really depends on if you want to work on military or civilian aircraft when you get out.

Instead of thinking what opportunities are out there, SPC (Join to see) you should be thinking about where you can create one of your own. What is it about aviation that excites you? What are your proficiencies in aviation knowledge? Where do you see yourself in 5 and in 10 years?

Granted, during my civilian time in the aviation industry the biggest hardest pushed lesson was networking. You can get anywhere with basic knowledge and knowing the correct people.
