So my packet goes to the board soon and I would like some input as to what makes a candidate more competitive. Recently, I read in one of the discussions, that E-4 get judged based on their LORs because they don't have any NCOERs. Is that true? And why does it take so long to let the candidates know if they were selected or not? The wait is killing me. Thank you

Never sat on an Army board, but have held membership on similiar boards in the USMC. In the case of an E-4, you are correct about LORs being of primary importance, although the board members would examine the individual's individual record for any weak points, or areas of concern. The waiting period for advising the service member of the results is dependent upon the administrative process and the time required to get to the top of the in basket of all those who must chop and endorse the package. I know that is little consolation for the member who is anxiously awaiting the word, but it will come! If the paper pushers demonstrated the same desire for speed as they exhibit in their physical fitness tests, the world would be a lot happier. Good luck.

Haven’t been ON the board, but I’ve been through the process. It is definitely a long wait. The good news is that you are basically a rubber stamp if your CV is approved, you meet the qualifications, and you get to the board before the AOC closes for the fiscal year.

The CV was very tedious, but I did get approved. I meet all of the requirements and have strong letters of recommendation but still you know how I feel.
