35L MOS: Has anyone recently re-classed to 35L?

I have submitted my re-class packet and currently waiting to hear back on whether I was accepted or not. I was wondering if anyone could give some feedback on the 35L MOS, schooling, assignments, etc.

Since you have not received any feedback, I thought I would give you some support and see if you have had any feedback from DA or COC yet on where you are in system or process for approval.

Good luck and keep us updated on your progress, we retirees/veterans as well as AD SMs need to support and mentor junior Soldiers who are trying to better themselves and progress in their careers.

I would tell you to contact a SFC Jenette Blamer at the Office Chief of MI (OCMI) at Fort Huachuca. The CISAC Course fell under my Company when I was a 1SG at Huachuca. I will tell you this. The course is very academically challenging. There is a lot of report writing, a lot of attention to detail and a lot of learning the "CI way."

Traditionally, a new CISAC graduate, especially a SGT, would be sent to a BCT. Although that is not always the case, it does happen fairly frequent. 35Ls can go almost anywhere so I will not bore you with detail and verse about the different locations. There are a lot of schools available for 35Ls. I would go ahead and secure a copy of the 35L Career Map and start looking at it.

How long has your packet been in the system? Sometimes it does take a while. Good luck and if you need any assistance along the way, don't hesitate to drop me a line.

Funny story for you SFC Gates...when I was 1SG back there I used to tell the students that you guys ain't gonna be Jason Bourne. You'll be writing more reports and giving more TARP/TESS briefs than you will be out there playing Spy v. Spy...

I would not get discouraged, like MSG Stankovich said, give SFC Blamer a call / email and she should be able to square you away. I have personally submitted four packets recently and it does take a while but they should never leave anyone hanging. Back when I first applied in 2009 it took nearly eight months to hear anything back; which jacked up my assignments a little bit due to my DEROS from Germany coming before receiving the answer but in the end it all worked out. Well except for the fact that I'm back in Germany again, back to back assignments here was not really what I was looking for. The CI community is VERY small so if you do your job well people will know you; on the flip side of that coin if you're not cut out for the MOS people will also know you, usually much faster because bad news always travels faster.

Congrats on the submission of a CI packet. I truly hope you
are selected. I myself recently re-classed approximately 1 ½ years ago.  As a former 35F (Intel Analyst), I do believe
it was the best career decision I’ve made since enlisting.  35L is truly a very unique MOS. Many guys who
choose to re-class, do so under the premise of being a part of some spy v spy
action as suggested by MSG Stankovich. “I
was there during MSG Stankovich’s tenure as 1SG. I enjoyed his safety briefs.”
 I do strongly agree with him that most of your time as an agent will involve report writing. Nevertheless, depending on where you’re stationed, you’ll
have an opportunity to attend some amazing schools, giving you a chance to
refine your craft. I myself am assigned to the 513th MI Brigade, an
outstanding organization for a new agent.

SGT Private RallyPoint Member, I did re-classify to 35L (it was 97B when I did it), but that was in 1979, so my information is just a little bit dated. :-) I can assist with discussion of schooling and assignments, though, because I'm still working in the CI field, now as a DA civilian.

Would anyone be able to give me some reading material that would be pertinent to learning to better myself to become a 35L? I am planning on reclassing here in the next year or so.
