We will have to take a wait and see attitude. Things that we are told, on the surface really, do not always come to fruition. Something as large as $52 BILLION should go an awful long way for all of us. I fear that this money, as has been the case throughout government, will be appropriated and divided and spent and wasted in the craziest ways. Like (here at Mather VAMC) building a very nice, very much needed, ground level parking lot with a large number of handicap space available, all for the comfort and convenience of the veterans only to be removed not more than 90 days later to make room for the construction of yet another vacant building. We have a building that was constructed maybe 10 years ago that was dubbed an in-patient psychiatric facility for OEF/OIF veterans (That is the actual name of the building) and is apparently not yet in use. (If it is actually in use, that use is well hidden.) A priority I would hope for would include funds directed at C&P claims and awards, solutions aimed toward ending or at least reducing veteran homelessness then on to competitive remuneration for professional staff at VA medical facilities. We all know, have met, been treated by less than competent medical folks who are there in many cases because the VA pay scale is so poor that other qualified men and women choose to practice in the private sector where they can enjoy a more appropriate income. Finally, not so much the spending part but the NOT spending part. DON'T WASTE PRECIOUS VA DOLLARS!
