We had a pretty good discussion about it. I have two positions on the subject.

First, personally, I'm getting that funny feeling we've done this sorta thing before. 400 troops? Training Syrian forces? Slippery slope based off past experience.

Second, professionally, if this is the next line in the sand, then so be it. Let's ensure that those 400 troops are trained, equipped, and ready to go. Let's ensure that they have the proper support (ie air, sea, fires, etc) at their disposal. And let's start planning for the next step and the one after that. This plan should not be pieced together. 1SG Steven Stankovich Fri, 16 Jan 2015 15:22:57 -0500 2015-01-16T15:22:57-05:00 Response by WO1 Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 16 at 2015 5:20 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/400-us-troops-to-be-deployed-to-train-syrian-forces?n=420872&urlhash=420872

read that orders will be distributed in the next week...

crossing fingers... YES, I firmly believe they'll use the training, weapons, and anything else against us and we'll be seeing them soon. That seems to be the general consensus in the RP community
secondly, im tired of the piecemeal deployments of our troops while proclaiming no ground troops. We sent over 700 "advisors" to Iraq between Jun and Oct 14, then more than doubled that number in Nov. to 1500. Now, 300 to Syria. That is nonsense. Im not opposed to providing ground troops, but we need ground troops, SAY SO, put together a plan, conduct the mission, and bring our Service members home
http://www.politico.com/story/2014/11/iraq-troops-deployment-doubles-112691.html

Obama doubles Iraq troop numbers

The roughly 1,500 additional troops will be in a “non-combat role,” the Pentagon says.

SFC Michael Jackson, MBA Fri, 16 Jan 2015 17:44:38 -0500 2015-01-16T17:44:38-05:00 Response by MSgt William Lucas made Jan 16 at 2015 9:54 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/400-us-troops-to-be-deployed-to-train-syrian-forces?n=421184&urlhash=421184

Sounds like Viet Nam to me.
