Mine... so many...

DS Horn. This guy was larger than life. He was another PLTs DS. He got wind of one of one of the soldiers in our unit breaking into the personal items closet and using his cell phone (Back when that was frowned upon, lol).

He was on CQ. Once all the DSs left for the night, he stormed in... "AT EASE!"
DS Horn: Where he at?
* sniff, sniff*
DS Horn: I smell p****!
*walks up to the soldier and grabs him by the collar and drags him to the bathroom. Screams, yells, (amongst other commotion) and soldier reemerges.

Mind you, we were all toe to line at the position of attention.

DS Horn leaves and we just stood there for about 10 minutes, afraid to move. The last thing anybody wanted was that counseling session.

I'm sure he could taste the fear... good times.

I have many as well, SSG Christopher Adame. One of my favorites was when we had our first half-day "pass" to go to the PX (about 200 or 300 yards away from our BCT area). I think this was in BCT, but it might have been in AIT, as I did Infantry OSUT at Fort Polk.

Well, when the time period was over, we had a formation in an area where you could see the PX (it was really more of a shoppette, not an actual PX). And we saw guys returning late from the couple hours we had off. The Drill Sergeants also saw those guys, and as soon as they recognized them as being part of our unit, they made them drop and low crawl back to the formation.

Then, we had a pretty intense PT session, so the guys who drank their 3.2 beer while on "pass" were having a very tough time keeping up ... since they had to stop from time to time to puke.

I remember thinking how clever the Drill Sergeants were. They taught us a lesson about being on time and about being ready.

Drill Sergeants of the past were allowed to be evil. It was great. The wisdom you gain about soldiers behavior after 4 plus years allows for some great setups, followed by corrective training.

Drill Sargent Kiefer.
I remember that guy like it was yesterday.
I owe my life to his "advice" on multiple occasions while in Vietnam.
However .. in BCT ... I would have happy pissed on his boots had I had the chance.
