Hello,

I've seen a few questions about re-classing to PSYOPS from service members who've already been in for awhile. As for myself, who's close to 31b OSUT graduation, I know there is some grey area in regards to failing any step in the training pipeline and the needs-of-the-army re-class that comes with that per the contract.

For some background, there have been a few re-classes coming through my OSUT company, such as a 68w who was dropped from his pipeline, who was able to choose a few jobs, which I assume were under-strength (he was National Guard), to reclassify to. My question is whether or not pipeline failures in the 37F program, say such as those who fail airborne or selection, would also be granted this option of advancing jobs, which, if were available, could be chosen. This is held in contrast to the conventional view of the army wherein failures were assigned without a choice.

My goal in asking this question is to plan for contingencies, as nothing is ever guaranteed, but also to shine some light for other 37F trainees who also have similar questions. My recruiter, for example, said there is no way I would be re-classed to anything but 31b as I would have already supposedly attained the MOS. Going to FLW and talking to the cadre, they all said the army doesn't necessarily operate under this mindset and that my recruiter, as well as the 37F contact he had, were false, through probably no fault of their own.

In closing, I understood the needs-of-the-army re-class in my contract prior to shipping out to OSUT, I only want to avoid needless toil if the worst case is to happen.

Thank you in advance for any help!

IET failures are reclassed to the needs of the Army based on class date availability and MOS Strengths. Your Career Counselor may allow you to pick from a list of jobs, but in the end the choice is HRC.

Amidst reading all of this, you’re kind of answering your own questions (or question). Needs of the Army is needs of the Army. It will either work in your favor or it will not. So it’s a 50/50 chance. To what I have seen thus far, either they stay as an MP or are recalased into another MOS. And they either stay on Fort Bragg or are sent elsewhere for their duty station. Yes it seems like a waste, but it won’t be the first time that money and time have been wasted. To a certain degree, you have control over your own career. But for the most part, Army will always play a part. You just have to be patient because even the things that you may want (no matter how bad you want it) do not either come so easily or come in a timely manner. You gotta fight hard for it.

In the end though, any bit of advice I can share with you that you can take to other newcomers: always have a plan, always have a backup plan to that, and even possibly a backup plan to the backup plan. You never know what tomorrow will bring so be prepared to accept what may come from it and move forward. Time moves on and it waits for no one. And lastly, expect the worst BUT hope for the best.

Anymore information, add me as a contact on here and I will try to do my best to help.

Best of luck!

I appreciate your answer and will take it to heart! I still have some time until airborne to prepare, I'm just thinking forward to the worst case, as you suggested.

You will not fail the Psyop pipeline unless you get a DUI or something
