If you receive a bad conduct discharge, can you call yourself a veteran?

I have heard a former soldier who received a bad conduct discharge is claiming they are a veteran, can they do that or is that a form of stolen valor?

Title 38 of the Code of Federal Regulations defines a veteran as “a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable.”

SSG Gordon Hill - It does, you asked about Stolen Valor. Also, only a DD will bar you from burial benefits. From the VA website : One of these must be true. The person qualifying for burial benefits is:
A Veteran who didn’t receive a dishonorable discharge.
A Veteran who didn’t receive a dishonorable discharge.

I would like to address the question again if service member receives a BCD can they call themselves a Veteran.
