Young Indecisive retiree would like advice on living OCONUS?

When you say retired, are you medically retired where you would need to be in the vicinity of a military base for support? Either way, being a DoD employee could have some good benefits for being OCONUS.

OCONUS is great. I did it and loved it. Transition? You're not in Kansas anymore Toto. Every place has pros and cons. Most of Europe is not 24X7 which takes getting used to. Your medical care will be better tho...

Retirees no longer need a Ration Card! Once you arrive, go to the DBIDS office (open Monday - Friday times vary by location) on the base close to where you plan to visit, register your ID card. This allows your card to be scanned for base entry without showing two forms of pictured ID. If you are traveling with a spouse, she must get a ration card to enter the PX and commissary. The DBIDS office in Yongsan is located in the 1st Replacement Center (1RC) building (the old O’Club which is now the “In and Out” processing center.) This is across the parking lot from Dragon Hill Lodge on South Post.
