Are the application processes for VA Benefits set up as a deterrent?

I sat through my ACAP workshop this week and received the briefing for VA benefits. While the process for getting benefits have came a long way in recent years, it feels like the process is set up as a deterrent. I thought the paperwork required during my active duty time was bad, but the requirements for the VA can drive someone crazy to the point of not even applying. The 6 month to a year wait for approval is horrible. Has anyone had a positive experience with benefit application process with VA?

I don't believe that they are set up as a deterrent. However, as with many other things in Government, they often appear more cumbersome than they have to be. I believe most folks who work at the VA are are honest people honestly trying to help Veterans. You may find it helpful to seek the assistance of a Veterans Service Organizations (e.g. American Legion, American
Veterans, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and
Vietnam Veterans of America). Each has Veterans Service Officers
with the sole purpose of assisting Veterans in filing claims for Service
Connected Disabilities. They provide these services free of charge
regardless of whether or not you are a member of their organization.

No SGT I have heard that from a lot of my soldiers though. Lean forward it is just one more obstacle to complete.
