So, my dad in his field used to preach the Silent professional. Do your job and let your results and actions speak. Don’t be a spotlight ranger. Or one who brags about their work and only really works when others are around. I’ve been in the Army for about 3 years now, Marines for 5 and since I came in 2010 I’ve noticed a HUGE influx of people using their job for clout and peers at work who will not shut up about what they do but produce half ass results. They seem to get further because they spotlight their half ass work.
So my question is, is the Silent professional a thing of the past or do some of you, especially in my peer group, follow that practice?

I’ve never been a fan of patting oneself on the back. I completely agree with your dad, let your work speak for itself.

Me either, but where I am it seems to be the only way to get ahead. Maybe it’s a way of the old man though

On the other hand, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease." Not that I'm disagreeing with you, just being a devil's advocate and pointing out that loud people get noticed; and will move right past you if you don't speak up and play the game just as they do.
