SGT Private RallyPoint Member 370599

I am currently up for re-enlistment. I do not want to get out, but I am getting into a mundane routine being a 68W. I am very interested in reclassing to a 35L. I have read about it and recieved a powerpoint about the MOS as well. But what I am really wondering, is what does a typical week look like for a 35L and what opportunites are there for the MOS.

I am trying to decided if this would be a progression or a regression. I am highly interested in the medical field and intelligence field as well.

A few specific questions:

1. How does the Counterintelligence Probationary Program work and how does it affect the job? Is this still an evaluation to be a 35L
2. Are courses such as the AFCITC, ACICC or DSDC avaliable often? (obviously after being on post for a year)

Thank you all who may be able to answer. 68W to 35L 2014-12-15T07:40:06-05:00 SGT Private RallyPoint Member 370599

I am currently up for re-enlistment. A typical week depends on where you're assigned. If you're in a tactical unit, there will be a lot of tactical kinds of things to do. If you're in a more strategic unit (like my unit, the 902d MI Group), you'll get to go out on interviews, do investigations, etc. I spent most of my career in strategic units and I have enjoyed it very much.

The probationary period is a standard deal. The Army wants to ensure that you are cut out to be a CI agent. Assuming your performance is satisfactory for the first year (I think it's still one year), you leave probationary status. I have not seen many people "fail" the probationary status period.

Regarding AFCITC, DSDC, and courses like that ... It usually takes a while to get into those courses. You can build your way up to them, but don't expect to attend AFCITC, for example, at the one-year mark. There are exceptions, but as a general rule, you have to put in a few years in the MOS to get the sexy schools.

Here's some open-source info about the MOS: http://www.army-portal.com/jobs/military-intelligence/35l.html

Army-Portal.com - Army Jobs - MOS 35L Counter Intelligence Agent

Counter Intelligence Agent (MOS 35L) duty description, required ASVAB score and security clearance, physical requirements, and available enlistment bonus are provided.

Response by CW5 Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 15 at 2014 9:26 AM 2014-12-15T09:26:38-05:00 2014-12-15T09:26:38-05:00 2014-12-15T07:40:06-05:00
