I hear a lot about Airborne and Ranger school but what are some other programs the Army has that could be helpful or cool to be part of? Any certifications that might help in the future?

Look for process improvement (a.k.a. Lean or Six Sigma) programs and training. It's been a few years since I retired (2013), but the Army did offer training as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt. Process Improvement can be applied at all levels of work, individual through Service-wide. Your Vehicle Mechanic MOS is closely related to the areas in which Lean process improvement started, the Toyota Production System, automobile manufacturing. I think the Army may still offer Green Belt training on line. Look for a unit or installation process improvement office or program. Certifications are attractive to civilian employers.

SPC (Join to see) You are on the right track for a successful career. Scare badges make you feel good and are both fun and misery, they do not put bread on the table or salable certifications in your records.
