COVID shot refusals being handled differently depending on rank?

I am an E5 and work in a a battalion HHC company. I was informed by my PSG that I will be separated if I continue to refuse the shot. I accept this if it comes to it and it's my choice and I'm not here to be ridiculed or start some political bs conversation about getting/refusing the shots but im seeing instances in my unit where higher rankings that are refusing are not being treated the same. I feel I like its a case of the good ol boy club and that the unit is looking out for them. Specifically, I know a msg with 13 years in who just recently took over as the S3 SGM. I've seen the same with a SFC that has 18 years in and the unit just seems to blow it off because he's retiring in two years.

This isn't right. I don't want to be a whistle blower and go to IG, but at the same time, it's a common example of how junior Soldiers and NCOs get hammered by the unit and made an example of while the senior folks get a hall pass.

This is a case of perception isn't reality. What has been handled differently? Have you been separated yet? No, you have not. Do you know that these senior ranking leaders haven't been counseled yet? No, you don't. Have any junior ranking Soldiers been "hammered"? No, they have not. The Army has been very clear that there was no administrative punishment for refusing the vaccine before it was mandated. Then it has been very clear on what will happen and when it will happen once it was mandated. Everyone, from Privates to Generals, who don't receive an exemption and refuse to be vaccinated, will be removed from leadership positions, issued GOMORs and be separated. That's directly from the Secretary of the Army. You can't "Good Ol' Boy Club" your way around that. The only difference here is that your senior leaders are still in denial and acting nonchalant about it. But that date is coming and early next year there are going to be a lot of promotions in a lot of ranks as spots open up.

It blows my mind that people that work in jobs that have required vaccines and other treatments for years believe they can avoid COVID. Same goes for companies that have never cared about your vaccine status now requiring COVID. There are few things that have a larger legal precedence than both sides of this. If you do not have the balls to stand against TDaP or the flu shot then you should just accept COVID.

PO1 Tyler Dinsmoor -, MAJ Byron Oyler - earned his leaf by understanding the requirements and then meeting them. The requirement is for this vaccination. Meeting them is what our oaths say we will do.

PO1 Tyler Dinsmoor - We take a flu shot every year and what do you think the Spanish Flu of 1918 that rocked the world was? Before the six feet social distancing came in, where do you think the distancing Americans keep came from? This is not the first nor will be be the last, I just hope it is the last big one in our lives. I retired as a major because I was a good Army officer and registered nurse and did not make LTC because my profession uses APA and that close to retirement, learning a new method outside the medical profession standard did not excite me.

James, while the sentiments around this vaccine have been politicized, the science has not. However, mandatory vaccinations have been part of the military for generations. I’ve had the anthrax shot 7 times to date, smallpox twice…I just received an email about going to a flu shot clinic in a couple weeks, which is of course mandatory. Personally, I wouldn’t loose my job, benefits and pension over a silly vaccine but it’s certainly your prerogative. Will people be discharged with bad RE codes? Yup. Will the speed of those discharges be equal across all demographics…nope…but if you’ve been in the military for more than 20 minutes you already know that too. Good luck.
