Targeted Direction:
Targeted Direction is my organization through which I provide free, no-obligation career transition support for Veterans and other individuals. I bring the experiences gained from my senior management positions with the federal government, two departments in state government, a national energy company, a Wall Street financial services firm, and other retail businesses to guide others. I am connected to dozens of local, national, Veteran and civilian groups which assist in career transition. I have professional associations with The Entrepreneur's Source, Executive Career Partners, Hire Heroes USA (for which I serve as a peer mentor) and other groups in identifying these key resources. My only focus is to support Veterans in their new career investigations.

Are you still in military? If do your local JAG office might be able to help. If you are out of the Service try reaching out to your local Veteran Service Office in your AO.

Why did congress change the promise of free TriCare health care upon retirement? I personally promised Soldiers I counseled during retention counseling of the benefit of free health care upon retirement from the National Guard. In many cases free health care upon retirement from the National Guard was the deciding point to retain qualified Soldiers. Thus, congress made me a lair. For this I apologize to all who read this and to whom I unwittingly deceived.

MCPO David Burns - You support my argument, Tricare for Life is a premium based insurance program for retired veterans over the age of 65. In addition to Tricare for Life being premium based insurance program (where premiums are certain to continue to raise in excess of cost-of-living levels) participants MUST purchase Medicare Part B. Medicare Part B can itself be outside the purchasing ability of certain citizens thus eliminating certain segments of veterans from obtaining Tricare for Life. At the very least the requirement to purchase Medicare Part B places another hurtle to the promise of free health care for life promised upon retirement.

TRICARE is the Department of Defense (DoD) health care program for uniformed service members, retirees & their families. https://tricare.mil/
TRICARE eligibility is determined by the military services.

If eligibility questions arise or more information is needed regarding TRICARE eligibility, contact:

No response to the question of why Tricare for Life changed from a no cost benefit to a premium based insurance with additional Medicare expense requirements has been proffered. Once a benefit changes it's character from one with no cost to one with a minimal cost the costs can only be expected to continue to rise to levels where the benefit no longer exists.

Andi Martinez - It is not eligibility I was discussing, it was the change in collecting premiums for Tricare. When I joined the military in 1979 part of the benefits that was talked about by my recruiter was free healthcare upon retirement. While today's premium is at least reasonable there is no promise of retaining a reasonable insurance rate in the future. I anticipate premiums for Tricare to rapidly rise to equal the rates open market insurance rates are today. Once a premium is established when it was not collected before it will continue to increase. What does Tricare anticipate the price of Tricare to be for the consumer of the product in lets say, 5 years or 10 years or even 25 years?
