Some people are telling me you can get a guaranteed AFSC and wait to ship out to basic for availability, but others say you have to list 5 jobs and an aptitude area. I need confirmation on which one is true.

Why are you not calling the Air Force recruiter who has the correct answers?

LMAO, SARGE,
The Recruiter Recruits,
He "AIN'T" No Tour Guide.
And They Have Numbers To Chase.
In Order To Accomplish Them,
They'll Lie Like All "L" To Recruit Anyone
With A Warm Body,...
Dead OR Alive And Breathing..
Okay, Breathing Is Optional...

A1C Medrick "Rick" DeVaney - My sentence stands DeVaney. The recruiter will have the correct answer. I do not think most recruiter lie. Where is your proof?

All I Can Refer to Is My Personal Experiences As An Enlistee When I Was Recruited In 1961. You Know, "The Olden Days Of The Dinosaurs & Advent Of Electric Light Bulbs".?
Anyway, I Was Told Several Various Things. I Mainly Recall I Had A Choice Of Duty Stations, Both Stateside And Over Seas,; Promotions Would Come Along & I'd Be Making Reasonable Income. NONE Of Which Were True.
Where's My Proof?,,, Shit Guy, I Lived It... That's Like My Asking You: "Can You Prove To Me, You're A Living Person & Not A Female Robot"?...
Well, Ted, That's My Experience, But It Was Actually Okay With Me, Because I Always Enjoyed My Enlistment Time, Where I Was Stationed & My Occupations And My Travel...
It Wasn't A Complaint, It Was Simply A Reply To Your Question And My Statement About The USAF Requiters Truthfulness.
Fact Is, Had It NOT Been For The Income At The Time, (My Net Highest Pay Of $173.00 Per Month) , It Would Have Been "My Career Of Choice." It Was 4 Years Of Great Fun, Free Travel, Free Room And Board Fully Paid, Etc..
What The "L"? It Was Better Than Being Home...Wherever That May Have Been,
And I Loved It...
I Was 17 On The Day Of My Enlistment & Could Have Retired At 37 Instead Of 56.

Ask a recruiter. They could put an answer in writing.

If a recruiter is saying you can get a guaranteed job, make dang sure you get it in writing and a copy of it. A verbal contract isn't worth the paper it is written on! All kidding aside, even if you a "guaranteed job" all you are really guaranteed is the school. They can still put you anyplace they want based on the needs of the service.
