But as an 88M your job becomes more of managing drivers, inspections, and the master driver program. They both have good promotion rates, lots of MTOE and TDA assignments in uncommon locations, and both provide segues to lucrative careers post Army. I'm not talking about truck driving either. You can follow up with logistics certs if you become a 92Y, and as an experienced 88M you can move into transportation coordination for shipping companies. Supply is very demanding as far as your time. I would look at the choice as “what can I do with this trading and experience after service? How much money will I make, and is there a demand for this field?” That’s what helped me choose 88M. Also the $40,000 prior service sign on bonus in 07’ helped. My brief encounters with 88Ms showed me they had a good job. They drove all types of general and special purpose support vehicles. Skills looked transferable to private sector jobs in trucking industry. Expect as an NCO to have leadership responsibility.

My daughter was an ANG supply clerk. Lots of detail inventory type work. Never ending piles of forms. Box kicking. Not easily transferable to private sector above stock clerk jobs. As a SSgt she supervised a small team. I can only speak on my experience as a 88M SSG and it was awesome. With that said I was assigned to the only Trans Co. in the 3rd ID at the time, 1997-2001. I was in Bco, 703rd MSB Ft. Stewart, Ga. I lnow this was a while back so things might be a bit different. At the time mission and training tempo felt non stop. If you are having knee or back issues climbing in and out of some of the tactical vehicles could be a problem due to the repetitive nature. I enjoyed what I did and even sat in a E6 slot as Ops Sgt my last 1 1/2 years. That creamed me way more than driving the trucks. I guess what I'm trying to say is depending on the capacity in which you would serve as a 88M30 could be either chill or very demanding. I know I wasn't much help. It's not a bad MOS but be prepared for a lot of F/F games, the Army already guarantees that just being in, so if you have been in for a while, you may like 88M. Usually people who are wanting the rest of their career to be a smooth ride, get stationed in Korea as an 88M, then move to a company that's very relaxed. I'm not sure if you can swing that, but depending on your experience and who you know, you could definitely get your assignment of choice.
