These are great lies that Soldiers tell their loved ones while in combat. They article has pictures too.

1. “No, we never go outside the wire.” (or “We go on tons of missions.”)
2. “It’s boring here.”
3. “They feed us pretty well.”
4. “I eat healthy snacks.”
5. “I’m learning a lot.”
6. “I couldn’t call because of all the work.”
7. “Our rooms aren’t too bad.”
8. “That’s not machine-gun fire; it’s a jackhammer.”
9. “I’m going to pay off my cards and put some money away for retirement."

We all say that.... Even when we get home, we don't tell the real story.... For many reasons.

But, also remember many of our spouses think when we are in the field, we are on a camporee.

I didn't lie I was a bomb sponge I still don't lie to this day. I tell the story the way it happened. I was in great shape while I was on my first deployment. I did number 9 too lol

#1. I would tell my family and friends something along those lines: "I never go outside the wire. I only work at the TMC which is pretty safe. Some of the 'bad' stuff you hear about happens in other regions of Iraq". Only after my year was over did I tell them that I was part of EVAC Platoon which went outside the wire all the time and that for the duration of one month I (and a small group of us) spent my time on a tiny JSS in the middle of Baghdad together with IA and IP. Otherwise, some people, especially my mom, would have had a heart attack back home! Communication means we're quite decent (most of the time at least), so I would tell them: "See, it's not so bad here, there are even ways to communicate with you guys back home"! After the year was over I told them a lot of what was really going on with me, but not everything. I think it's better that way.

I actually didn't leave the wire, well we had no fence or barriers during my first tour in Iraq we just set up tents beside the road we used for helo pads. The food was actually good but it was cooked by the Kurds, and I did pay off all my cards and saved 21k which I did use up once I got out.
