Is the US Navy's Aegis radar still susceptible to Russian Electronic Warfare? Can anyone on RP comment?

Tom Clancy’s latest, ‘Under Fire”, mentions the Aegis Radar aboard the USS John Cook, DDG-75 being disabled after overflights by a Russian aircraft in Apr 2014.

Apparently the ’Fencer” airplane mounted an EW pod called a Khibiny part of a larger EW system
the Borisoglebsk-2 that can ‘perhaps’ disable satellite and GPS systems.

As SN Greg Wright stated, the actual answer to this is classified (speaking with experience on this matter). The answers that are on wikipedia are generalized for a wide array of radar systems.

It further this, on my previous ship, which had an older version of SPY-1, the radar AEGIS is built around. We were "suggested" to learn all the caps and lims about the radar and the combat suite. There alot of systems at play within the AEGIS suite that could explain the happening but cannot get into specifics on here.

PO1 Matthew Peters, I can readily accept that. Nevertheless, if Clancy blares a problem to the world. What is the problem w/ the US Navy's accepting responsibility and telling us more?

Plausible deniability of systems. We wouldn't reveal our capibilities and limitations to anyone, which is why the caps and lims are classified Secret - NOFORN.

CSM Charles Hayden I believe that's info that's classified, CSM, so I'm not sure you'll get an answer here.

I could be wrong.

SN Greg Wright, If Tom Clancy knew, wrote about and Google pretty well confirms the situation, I am really curious. I should think the Navy should reassure Tom Clancy readers and the U.S. in general that a publizied weakness in the Aegis system has been ratified? What of the 26 Sailors who supposedly requested a transfer off the ship?

CSM Charles Hayden - CPO (Join to see) After spending the last hour or so looking into this, CSM...everything I can find is opinion and second-hand sources -- I see nothing official or credible. I see Russians saying this happened, and the internet, being the internet, picks it up and runs with it like it's gospel, and each article seemed a little more sensationalized than the last. I would take it with a grain of salt, CSM.

If this WERE true -- if the Russians could effectively render the ENTIRE US NAVY helpless with just a few planes...you would have seen Pentagon reaction in ship movements. No way they keep CBG's on station with that kind of risk. There's a large difference between risking 'normal' combat losses, and risking the sure destruction of the entire inventory.

No....I think this is an internet urban legend. And I will defer to the PO1's greater, and more modern, expertise, but I also do not entirely base my position on 'what-ifs'. I have (admittedly old, now) some knowledge of what I speak, which is what caused me to write my first response.

Can't vouch for the AEGIS except to say it's amazing. Also I love how realistic Tom Clancy's books are even when being far-fetched. My favorite author.

LCDR Nicholas Mulcahey, A Google search leads me to believe the cited vessel was indeed comprismised.

LCDR Nicholas Mulcahey, Please explore WEB Griffin's work also. Not as many 'names' as Clancy, but compelling. After several reads over the years, I maintain a set of whichever of his series I might choose. Then, I can breeze thru and follow the story. U.S.A., USMC, Philadelipha Pd and - . How do you do at "Ho-Dad's" in OB?
