I think a lot of carmakers could devise systems will not run if you cell phone is on after linking with Bluetooth.. Or use voice only options for GPS, & other Console Displays..

It's simple.
1) Not their problem. They are not held liable, so they really do not care.
2) $$$, if the tech costs more money, will people buy it?

Most cars have certain functions disabled while driving. The newer ones even have auto reply through text stating the contact is currently driving and unavailable. However I believe this line of reasoning is very dangerous. We cant hold the carmakers responsible for anything the drivers do. If you make something idiot proof you only make a bigger idiot.

Agreed. There are way too many distractions...and use of voice commands would be the best way to do things.

A local cop told me "You can't fix stupid" because fixing some technical issues will not do anything for eating, daydreaming (Guilty), looking at scenery (Guilty), playing with drivers displays, Bose Audio , or GPS ..But I think the big culprit is so many texting while driving or talking on their cell phones... I run every day around my neighborhood and see a lot of distracted drivers. Many run through red lights or walk signals..or cross into oncoming traffic...

Actually, receiving and using voice commands has been repeatedly shown as being just as impaired as being 0.10 BAC. Voice commands aren't the answer.
