One is for maritime ops the other does more land ops. The news has blasted the seals allot here lately and the movie didn't help. People don't remember that it was delta that went to Iran and rescued hostages and a movie was made about that also. Which the movie sucked and wasn't no where near the truth. Hollywood messes up the real story of the military now matter who they try to make a movie about. They can't copy the uniforms because they will get into trouble for it and they have to add on to a story to make it more appealing to the public I know.
I was stationed at Fort Bragg twice and it's very true Delta is Secertive and you don't know who they are or what they do. I'm from Va and I see navel people with the seal emblem on the uniform. I give them much respect for what they go thru to be part of there teams. I don't know if I could of gone thru either of the rigorous training each group goes thru, but I didn't try.
Hoora to both groups you have my respect. Yes both groups are extremely well trained and good at what they do the article did hit the only main difference which is DEVGRU is the primary for anything maritime. DEVGRU is actually divided into both SEAL and SWCC (Boat Guys). Back to the other differences which are mostly internal SOP's, kind of like a group personality or character. Both think outside the box and both are very selective and secretive until you have the internal leaks mentioned in a previous comment. The problem that they both encounter is when there is a non-Spec Op COC in the AO and only a Spec Op Liaison. This usually forces them to think inside a very constricting box that makes their mission extremely difficult and this is where mission failures and casualties happen. But again, both are great at what they do and if I had a preference, well, we know which I would choose..... Just sayin'. In the book, he goes through the history of how both Delta and ST6 started and goes into detail about how they both changed in the War on Terror. They both evolved from different missions but because of the demand for Tier One operators in the GWOT, they became somewhat interchangeable. In the book, he says that Delta had the responsibility for Iraq and ST6 for Afghanistan. I enjoyed the book and am glad that regardless of who they belong to, they are on our side.
