A man dressed in full Knights Templar gear with bow and arrows will be posted in front of recruiting offices in my town. This is definitely not what I pictured when I heard about people guarding recruiters. What do you think?

This is about one of the stupidest things I have ever seen. He is more out for attention than for anything else. How do you take a guy like that serious. He is not actually trying to protect them. He even states it himself. He wants to bring attention to the situation. I think we already know that this situation needs to be addressed. I just don't see how he is offering anything of any value to the situation. I have a feeling he is into LARPing.

PVT (Join to see) - Nope. If that was at a recruiting station I was at I would tell him to leave. He isn't really offering anything but a better target. If someone wanted to make a name for themselves you would do that if you shoot a guy in front a recruiting off. That is why you don't bring a bow & arrow to a gun fight.

This is out of control honestly. While I appreciate the fact that people feel the need to do something, WE should not BE in this situation. It infuriates me to no end. This needed to be something that although it was greatly saddening, we needed to simply suit up and carry on as if nothing happened. I am not saying not giving the respect that is due our brothers, but I AM saying that we cannot keep this silliness going. We as recruiters are Soldiers, in my station the majority of us are all combat veterans, combat arms, combat veterans. The remainder of them honestly I wouldn't mess with either. These people "pulling guard" for the protectors of America are bringing more attention to us and our stations than if we had simply not locked our doors, pulled our blinds and hid. NOTHING could have stopped the events in Chattanooga, people want to say that these guys being armed would have, but the fact remains that this wacko fired from OUTSIDE, IN HIS CAR. NOTHING could have been done. We need to get past this mass hysteria, get out there and RECRUIT people. No more hiding, no more trying to act like we are not what we are. Recruiters with proud pasts. I carry no shame in what I have done in all of my deployments. I carry no remorse and when my time comes, I can say to God that I did what I had to do to bring me and my guys home.
We need to be proud, send all these guys home, get our heads straight, go recruit and carry on with the mission.

I give him Kudos for volunteering, and maybe the next gunman might laugh to hard and pass on that recruiting center! LOL

We can only hope that's what might happen. We trust this gent, well-intentioned as he is, does not make himself more of an inviting target while on this "Knight shift."

That would never happen in Florida. Mostly because he would fry alive while simultaneously rusting away.

That is not a Knight Templar flag, It is a flag of the Republic of Georgia!

It looks somewhat like the flag for Jerusalem.

SSG (Join to see) - If they were all connected, it would be a Jerusalem cross! (I will see if I can find an example for you)

I believe the central theme in all these flags and crosses is the cross of St. George, which would also account for some of the confusion.

So to get into the office, do you have to find him a shrubbery?

I guess he is out of work after Indiana Jones found the Holy Grail!

Honestly, I like it. It's absurd. It's garish. It's preposterous. It seems to match exactly what is happening surrounding the situation. While it is an extreme tragedy that something like Chattanooga could happen, it was hardly the first incident that is similar in nature. Outlying facilities will always face a different threat than a base/post will. We are in a threat environment where it takes next to nothing for the next attack to happen. Motive could be as simple as a disaffected person who harbors extreme thoughts having a bad cup of coffee that day. It's not as controlled as it was. ISIL's influence is extremely decentralized and effective. Being in area that has had known observation, I welcome anything that draws additional attention to the issue. We are sitting ducks. We need to find the right balance of force protection that allows for operations to be maintained but for safety and security to also be increased. Civilian clothes and a hopeful attitude are not going to do it.
