Active duty and active in American Legion? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/active-duty-and-active-in-american-legion

Just curious.....any other active duty service personnel already involved in the American Legion? Or is that something to do upon retirement or ETS? What is the value for active duty personnel to be active in American Legion? What say you? Depending on where you are we may be able to sponsor your first years while on AD, RA or NG duty.

Community service is always a good thing to have on an evaluation and most of the time it feels good. We have many members still serving and assist as best they can. The other BIG point is everyone still in the service knows all of the regs, once you are out, the American Legion is one of the best places to find out about what you are eligible for. So while you are in, you will be able to acquire that knowledge for when you get out. I have found my service with The American Legion to be very rewarding and would recommend active participation while on active duty. I was a District Commander during WOCS, the National American Legion College, and my appointment to WO1. Since then I have served as a member of the National Media & Communications Council, a Department Committee Chairman, District & Post Adjutant, & a Delegate to the last five National Conventions. I have found the ability to use a portion of my 30 days of annual leave to serve The American Legion as a great benefit and look forward to continuing my service in this amazing organization. While it is rare for AD personnel to be in the Legion its even rarer for them to active in the Legion. The American Legion needs young dynamic leaders like yourself so keep up the good work.
