After I have joined the Reserves, can I change my MOS and go into the Guard?

Possibly. But, you will need to speak with your USAR recruiter and a Guard recruiter for a solid answer

It is possible but not easy. First, you would have to get a conditional release from the Army Reserve. They Guard and the Reserve are two different organizations. Keep in mind that this is a request. They can deny it. If you have a good reason they may look favorably on it but if you just don't like your job then they may just tell you no. If they do a release then you can talk to the Guard. Changing MOS's in the Guard is not hard but there has to be the right scenario. If you want to be 11B and that state is overstrength on them you may not get it. Or even if they have that MOS available in that state. Every state has different units. Some don't even have some MOSs. If you wanted to be on a flight crew then you have to make sure they even have that type of unit there.

PVT Andrew Gooldrup if 30 min vs 3 hours is a main reason regarding BTA attendance with your current MOS virtually every unit Guard and reserves have 92Y positions. With RST options you might find a Reserve Unit close enough to train with pending permanent transfer. Check with your unit as well! Good luck in your quest!

If your traveling 3 hrs to get to Battle Assembly, that tells me you are over 150 away. Are you using IDT and or LIK? You should be able to use one or the other or in some cases both. This should cover fuel and lodging cost. Also I hope your not driving back and forth every day.

What MOS are you now, and what MOS do you want to switch to? Why do you think you want that different MOS? Some MOS's exist in both the Guard and Ressrves, some exist in this state ( Guard) but not another ano some exist in one region (Reserves) but not another. Keep in mind, promotion potential in MOS's and Guard/Reserves

I know it is a lot easier for reserve to go active just because they are both controlled by federal. The National Guard is governed by the state.

I have done it between Air Guard units several times because I was moving to a job in another state. Find out if the unit you want to join has a spot available and is willing to take you, especially if it means going to school. I would start there, then approach your current unit. Also, I found if you are in your first enlistment or have recently gone to tech school, you may have to wait. Don't forget about the Air Guard. They may have a similar job available. I have had many friends who were in a different branch before the Air Guard.

After attending AIT the usual requirement is to serve 12 mo. In your trained MOS.
