Ahhh, this is exactly where I am right now. And I get to be a subject matter expert!! I will likely still screw this up...

You file for pay at age 60. But, this is from HRC:
The NDAA for 2008 reduces the retirement age for Reserve Component (RC) Soldiers from 60 to a lesser age, but not below age 50, for those who have served on Active Duty (AD) in an eligible status on or after 29 Jan 08. For qualifying service on or after 29 Jan 08, each day on that AD tour could count toward a reduction in retirement age. However, even though each day counts, days are credited in aggregates of 90 days only within any Fiscal Year. A day of duty shall be included in only one aggregate of 90 days.

The key point in that is ELIGIBLE STATUS. Your 12 years of Active duty will not count for the age reduction. It had to be a call to AD from a reserve status. For me, that is 9 months off age 60, which is Oct of next year. You begin filing paperwork 9 months before this date.

If you end up gaining 20 good years of active duty, deployments, you go AGR, etc... you can retire as would an active duty soldier.

I have all the info on this, so if you want more let me know. CRDP CRSC, VA Disability, medical insurance, I have all the info.

That is correct, there are some qualifiers for this early retirement. One you may not get the full length of the orders, there are some rules etc they follow, I have almost 2 years that qualify but I only got about 1 yr and 4 months, so if they paper work went thru correctly I should get paid in November. I know the reserves have a reserve retirement staff that will calculate your time etc and help fill out the paper work to apply.
