Although it's in the regulation, do you shave daily while on leave and the weekends?

AR 670-1 was revised to say you're a Soldier 24/7-365. Apparently this means that you must be cleanly shaven even off duty days and while on leave. This does fall under the punitive sections of the regulation.

I know it is the wrong answer but heck no. My face hurts enough during the week. I let it grow over the weekend. Plus I get the best shave when I actually have a couple days growth. In basic I had to keep a razor on me because my facial hair grows so fast. You can blame that on genetics. MSgt Private RallyPoint Member

Where are you getting your 'apparent' information from?

IAW AR 670-1, para 3-2, Facial hair. Males will keep their face clean-shaven when in uniform, or in civilian clothes on duty.

So where's the confusion?

I had a SgtMaj who said this.

If you are hanging around the house, and don't shave 'who cares.' If you are going out in Public, make yourself look presentable. This coincides with the "Off duty" which implies "Liberty."

As for Leave, that's our time, there's a reason there is a very formal check in/out process in place.

Being as blonde and as fair skinned as I am I could go two days on duty and not shave, when I'd go to visit my parents with my family I didnt shave.

I follow AR 670-1 where its states, "on duty". I've went to stores on and off post with not shaving for a few days. I don't notice anyone looking at me. If I ever get questioned, I will refer "AR 670-1, para 3-2, Facial hair. Males will keep their face clean-shaven when in uniform, or in civilian clothes on duty" with the utmost confidence and keep on rolling without flinching or showing ID.

Being a sailor I understand the different branches have different rules on this but I can guarantee you if you were to go to a Navy base on the weekend or meet up with navy buddies out in town that are "off-duty" they don't shave and neither do I. If I have to put my uniform on for any reason (even if its just to take pictures for the family) or perform duties in civilian clothes, i'll shave. Its bad enough to have to shave every day and considering dermatologists determined it is bad for your skin and you can actually get a small percentage of disability for it, I gladly give my skin a rest off-duty.

Back in the 90's a few days of scruff wasn't a big deal. Seems like a hanging offense these days. When I was in, I never shaved on my weekends and on leave. Skin needs time to heal and shaving 5+ days a week years your face up.
