Although it's in the regulation, do you shave daily while on leave and the weekends?

AR 670-1 was revised to say you're a Soldier 24/7-365. Apparently this means that you must be cleanly shaven even off duty days and while on leave. This does fall under the punitive sections of the regulation.

Where are you getting your 'apparent' information from?
IAW AR 670-1, para 3-2, Facial hair. Males will keep their face clean-shaven when in uniform, or in civilian clothes on duty.

I agree to disagree, SGM Matthew Quick. The "Handlebar mustaches, goatees, and beards are not authorized," is a statement by itself. I disagree with the paraphrase you provided. I only bring this up because as you can read by some of the other responses, some leadership has read deep into this regulation as well. I personally have been chastised for walking in the PX on my day off unshaven. It happens, no big deal, I just want to bring to light the amount of subjectivity that occurs when interpreting regulation.

I see have to agree with SGM Quick. He is emphasizing that these styles are not authorized for wear while on duty (specifically.) As Leaders, we have to have an inherent understanding that regulations are always going to be subject to individual interpretation. As such, when I have been on leave and needed to go on post for whatever reason, I make sure to present the most professional appearance possible to avoid the scrutiny.

It may be that some folks interpret "on duty" as every single day and individual is on active duty. That all encompassing interpretation would include weekends, passes and leave.

I know it is the wrong answer but heck no. My face hurts enough during the week. I let it grow over the weekend. Plus I get the best shave when I actually have a couple days growth. In basic I had to keep a razor on me because my facial hair grows so fast. You can blame that on genetics. MSgt (Join to see)

I would shave in the morning with a safety razor and touch it up for evening formation with an electric shaver. It was the only way to keep the gunny happy!

Being a sailor I understand the different branches have different rules on this but I can guarantee you if you were to go to a Navy base on the weekend or meet up with navy buddies out in town that are "off-duty" they don't shave and neither do I. If I have to put my uniform on for any reason (even if its just to take pictures for the family) or perform duties in civilian clothes, i'll shave. Its bad enough to have to shave every day and considering dermatologists determined it is bad for your skin and you can actually get a small percentage of disability for it, I gladly give my skin a rest off-duty.

I agree. I don't know too many Sailors that shave on while off-duty, unless they are required to put on a uniform.
