Once you put in some time and become an NCO, then you can call them directly. Otherwise, your NCO will be the one that needs to make that call. With that being said, as you get ready to move on from your first duty station, you would have a little more leverage as opposed to someone who is brand new. You are an initial entry student so the normal branch manager who slots 68W is not the one who will slot you. IET are slotted by accession branch, I believe.
Your drill Sergeant can't prevent you from contacting the branch, however. You will need an Airborne physical if you plan on asking for an Airborne assignment. That's not to say you'll go to Bragg, either. IET students are sent to fill whatever vacancies the Army needs most. I was contracted to attend Airborne School, but had assignment information to the 82nd before I left AIT. I didn't have to take any extra steps though, I guess it just kind of worked out. I'm not sure if they still let IET students volunteer for Airborne School at AIT, but that will be your best chance of getting to the 82nd or Fort Bragg. Usually the Army is always looking for Airborne volunteers. SFC Private RallyPoint Member Sat, 01 Dec 2018 08:24:03 -0500 2018-12-01T08:24:03-05:00 2018-11-30T23:43:29-05:00
