Am I guaranteed a deployment as 11B in the National Guard?

I am extremely motivated and want to deploy. I decided to join the Guard to knock out my degree as soon as possible. I also speak Arabic.

Unfortunately no. Not even AD is guaranteed one at the moment. But AD will have the best chance.

You can check on the Tour of Duty website for open slots for deployment and submit a packet to volunteer. If you want to deploy, there should be something available, although 11B is less likely because that isn't the skillset that is currently needed at this phase of our current conflicts.

If you joined as AD, and came to 101st, probably you are getting deploy every two years :D.

If it's your units turn then yes. Otherwise no. Unless you go active after your term as a national guardsman.

Right now I think that aviation, engineers, MPs, and Sustainment commands have the highest frequency.

For the guard if you put the leg work in you can find deployments. It’s all about networking

Guaranteed? No.

If you were 11B Active Duty Army it wouldn't be guaranteed.

I often tell all the Warrant Officers when I conduct Professional Development sessions and all Soldiers, family members and civilians, the only guarantee when you are born is death. As gruesome as it sounds, think of it, you are not guaranteed a spouse, kid, job, education, anything once walking on mother earth, but you are guaranteed to perish. Enjoy your training and hope you never have to use it, watching your brothers and sisters in arms fall is hard, even HARDER in the ARNG as you typically are form the same town, went to school with them and have served together for decades! Active duty we barely get to know someone or the unit and move on every 2-3 years. Again, enjoy the training that the infantry gives you, kill it and let's hope you don't have to look in someone's eye as their life leaves them.

If you wish to depot there are many ways to do so in the Guard. However, I caution you with this; you have volunteered to serve your State and your country. You selected a combat arms branch, one of the most deployed MOS in the Army. If you deploy in combat arms you do not want to round out another unit as the pace of battle could quickly overwhelm you and create challenges for your Team during the fight. It is better to dig in and do your job with your assigned unit and deploy when the unit is called. Thank you for your service.

Deployments are never guaranteed, especially if you are attending college. You can always volunteer but no guarantees that you will be picked. National Guard is actually the best way to get some deployment time, however it may be inside of your state working disaster relief but doing your job to support your state and country are why you are volunteering in the first place.

I don't know, I can pretty guarantee you a deployment as a 36B in PA. Our National Guard unit has 16 deployments total since 2003 (3 myself). But, that's finance, not infantry. We travel around the country a lot while deployed but we don't do infantry stuff...we're the money people!

There are no guarantees. The ops tempo today is much lower than a few years ago. If you are fluent in Arabic and go active as a linguist I am sure you will deploy - a lot.

I think it just depends on the route you take. My non active buddy in basic had signed up for a deployment. It’ll be worth looking into it with your chain of command

During your next drill weekend, put on a pair of Vietnam era jungle boots and camo up your face. Then promptly walk into your battalion CSMs office, and scream at the top of your lungs, " Hooooah, ready to depoy sergeants major!" I guarantee you will go somewhere.

You may want to check out the HRC (Human Resources Command) Web Site as they used to have an area where you can apply for deployment based on your MOS, Rank and other skills. If I recall these were individual positions so you can see where you would be deploying to and for how long and the duties you would be preforming. I would think having the ability to speak Arab would be a plus! Also I don't believe your assigned Unit can deny you if you apply for one of these positions

Be careful for what you ask for because when you get it, you might not want it. I once had a Bn SGM who was on his first deployment to Iraq when I was on my forth. Your time will come but don't wish for it because once it starts it seems to never end.

Sadly no. You can volunteer for deployments but even if you get one not many 11B are earning their CIB on the current deployments they are going on. If that's your motivation.

Nothing in the military is guaranteed. I was a 71D. I had enlisted with a guarantee of first duty Station of Choice. I had this in writing in my enlistment contract. While in AIT training, everyone else was getting their duty assignment orders a week or two before graduation. I did not get my orders til 2 days before graduation. I received orders to Fort Sill, Oklahoma. This was not one of my Stations of Choice. When I complained to my 1st Sergeant, I was told the Army sends you where they need you...accept it. I took leave between AIT and reporting to my assignment. While at home, I found out my recruiter had transferred out of state. I went to my Congressman's office and opened an investigation. I reported to Fort Sill while the Congressman's office investigated. After a month or two, I was notified that, yes, I was correct. I had been guaranteed Station of Choice, however the Army could not honor their commitment. I was told that I could voluntarily be discharged due to the Army's failure to honor the commitment. I chose to stay in and serve out my 3 years. Bottom line is that the Military will do whatever they want to suit their needs.

So enlist as RA! Remember one thing young buck, becareful for what you wish for! Just because you speak Arabic doesn't mean you know their culture! Hadji don't play, and some of them are really good in tactics. Most have never known peace, and some known more about killing you then getting a first date! You deploy I advise caution, and respect for your enemy. You slip, you'll get a personal plane ride home in a box with your own flag. You Roger?
