As for hats and caps in genera,l I wish the Army had a uniform option with a garrison cap, much prefer over the beret or the service cap! I can understand why the Army is the only service that typically wears the combat uniform in public and office environments!

That brings me to another interesting thought, If senior warrants get field grade status, why not get roll them into becoming commissioned officers as what they did with Army Physician Assts. Pay is very close to O1 to O5 anyway. They could still keep the specialized career path. Roughly similar in concept to the Navy's Limited Duty Officer program (although they still have Warrants as well) Warrants are considered commissioned officers after W1 anyway. I know that the Warrant Officer corps is a long and proud tradition; however, since they are considered commissioned, are paid as commissioned officers, now get field grade status, lets make them commissioned. Just some interesting discussion material! Something a bandsman in the Rose Bowl parade might wear. I KNOW! How about branch colored pom-poms on the top of the cover so you can be recognized at a distance and from above! And, of course, the pom-poms for Field Grade and Senior Field Grade Warrant Officers would have to be in silver or gold!

Am I the only one who thinks something ia very wrong here (hmmm, wouldn't be the first time I've been alone)?

Has anyone seen the new Air Force class-A's? Modeled somewhat after the Marine dress uniform, they present a serious, dignified look.

Oh, by the way, does anyone here remember what warrant officers were supposed to be and do? And, as far as I'm concerned, that's the way it way it always should be. The soldier who can teach and mentor troops, who can ensure continuity of quality, and who can personally step in when first line troops are incapacitated. That's why I wanted to become a warrant and that's what being a warrant officer is all about! Ok (here it comes) to maintain consistency with the other officer ranks it only makes sense to have flag grade warrant officers (CW6–CW10). It strikes me as unfair that the "traditional" commissioned officers have a career path from O1 through O10, but not anyone else. I realize that only aviators will ever make it to flag rank, but every important idea involves trade-offs. Also, in keeping with enlisted rank structure, I think its way past time that we had a grand exalted supreme flag grad warrant at DA and possibly with a seat with the JCS.

As I'm sure you know, traditionally flag officers are allowed to design their uniforms. I'm curious to see what our first transgendered CW6 comes up with.

All of this reminds me of a sign I used to have hanging on the wall behind my desk: "I used to be disgusted, now I'm merely amused." Nothing made me prouder than being a Warrant Officer. Period! Brown Shoulder Boards, Silver Buttons, and the distinctive insignia of a Warrant Officer created in 1921. A true specialist and professional. Getting commissioned was the first insult and being told I had to wear aviation branch insignia and color the second (which I did not do). We did not salute each other either. Do not get me wrong, my father flew B-24's, B-17's and B-29's during the second world war and gave me the aviation branch insignia he wore when when he swore me in as a WO1.
