Any advice for an IMA Reserve Officer about to assume a 120 day assignment in the NCR on CO-ADOS orders?

If you are "acting" in that position, do everything you can to obtain authority to make corrections to problems that are bound to pop up. Once I was an "acting" CO with the responsibility for everything but no authority to make changes when clearly needed. Contrary to what I was advised by Command, they were unwilling to assist in any manner during my tenure. I doubt if the Army has evolved from that mindset with the passage of time.

Work now with your activity to ID lodging, understand the work to and from plan, get some info on battle rhythm and do some research on personal and professional activities ongoing during the time to see where you can find some space to get out and enjoy the area. Besides that, there are more than enough things to do in the NCR to keep you busy for 120 days. Don’t waste them and have some fun, too include bringing some family out to visit if possible :)
