Prior service Marine who just joined the Army Reserves after having a two year break in service. Trying to go the Officer route once I finish my degree but one of the requirements is that I have to be an NCO and be recommended by my command.

That’s definitely going to depend on the unit but I’m in the National Guard and my unit had no objections to me going. We needed officers though. Have you asked them or talked to them about it?

2LT (Join to see) Agreed. USAR may have different requirements, but if they are anything like NG units they are hurting for officers.

I could be wrong with the requirements for the USAR, but you do not need to be an NCO to qualify for OCS. For a direct commission yes, but not OCS in the reserves or guard.

SPC Onel Cruz Negative. You'll need a recommendation from your CO, but it has nothing to do with your remaining contractual time.
