You mean off-post or lower post? I was stationed at Fort Lewis and had to wait 18 months for a house to open up on post. My wife, kids and I rented a house in Lacey and I commuted -- I also ended up taking a second job to pay the electric bill -- Puget Power was extortionate back then. I had a very understanding CO and an equally understanding manager at Hawk's Prarie McDonald's.
When we finally got on post I was only there 6 months before I PCS'd overseas.
Fun.
