Anyone have good corrective training for a lost CAC?

I have a few ideas, but I was wondering if anyone had any great ideas that are effective (and unusual) that will hit home the importance of not losing the CAC.

I would say after the new cac is issued have the machine shop make a CAC looking brick with the saying "I lost my CAC" and have the soldier wear it around his or her neck for a week.

on the spot inspections. every time an NCO walks by the individual has to show them there CAC. or you can take a page from WOCS and have them write a 500 word memorandum for record on college ruled paper and black pen that way every time they make a mistake they have to start over. But that will make you do some work too. You have to make sure all the spacing is correct along with spelling and punctuation. I think it will set in after having to do it 3 or 4 times..

I would have that Soldier report to you and/or CQ every day once before PT, once at Lunch, once at COB formation and again during the day (even on weekends) for a few days. It may not be that "unusal" but let's face it, nothing impacts a Soldier more than taking their time to do something so "dumb" as to present your ID Card to someone.

OH.. when you give it back put some clear tap over the chip.. that way he cannot login or do anything with it till you deem to tell him or he gets a new one. This is a classic one where I used to work.. drives them nuts

How about as a first step you speak with a soldier and find out what happened

Does this soldier lose property often?
Or is this just something that happens to everybody whether it’s a set of car keys that falls out of your pocket your wallet comes out of a backpack when the zipper broke or just your plain old garden-variety a couple of times and just about everybody’s life you left something where you should not and when you went back it was gone

Collective training is used to alter behavior perhaps find out if there’s a behavior that needs to be altered before you solicit inventive ways to punish under the guise of correct of training

Most soldiers generally want to do good most soldiers when they make a mistake dislike in the selves for having made the mistake

Perhaps you’ve done all of that if so and you still feel the soldier needs correct of training to fully grasp the requirement to maintain positive control of an ID card

Then by all means take it vantage of something non-punitive reasonable in duration to push the point home

The funniest one I ever saw: Team Leader made a giant CAC out of a cardboard box, cut out a square for the picture, the Soldier had to keep his face in the square and carry it everywhere.

Unless it’s someone who has lost their CAC repeatedly then I would think a nice “hey soldier you need to keep your property maintained and secured especially something so important for security purposes. Next time it won’t just be a friendly heads up”.

Everyone makes mistakes. Usually getting your tail chewed by a higher rank is enough to wake most people up.

Now if this is someone who this is a habitual issue with then I’d say do something interesting and memorable.

A soldier forgot their boots at home, so our Squad Leader had them grab them but instead of wear it, walk around our BA weekend with the laces tied together and draped around his shoulders and neck. Sure it's not the CAC but it's an enjoyable memory.

I would personally fashion a sling for the CAC and have it issued to the soldier with a hand receipt, and have the soldier walk around with it at the low ready all day. Treat it like his rifle. Good luck losing that.

Back in my enlisted days (late 80s - mid 90s) they would make you carry a poster board sized “replica” of your ID card or meal card around for a while, complete with cartoonized facsimile of your face.

This and have them complete a 2162 inventorying the item every three hours for a weekend if it were habitual repeat offense. If it’s happened more than three times, is he selling them? CID?

Have them tape it to their forehead for a day or two u less in formation. Have them spend time at the entrance to the unit or barracks checking everyone's CAC after hours.

I couple days on guard duty will give the Soldier an opportunity to handle CACs over and over again. This might help to remind him of their importance

While not condoning the soldiers lack of accountability the The Army loses stuff all the time. Have them help track down the missing weapons.
