When I was in Korea there was no ceremony, the battery commander just gave me orders changing my rank. Quite a big ceremony. Then we didn't have boards except E-6 and above.

Ceremony? If you call getting your crow "tacked on" by everybody in your unit, I think I can manage a photo of my extremely bruised arm

Navy doesn't really have what you would call a ceremony. Or at least they didn't when I was still in. I don't remember pictures being taken when we were advanced. Usually a pretty quick formation, names called, stepped forward and then the higher Petty Officers tacked them on! Then done.

1966 MCAS El Toro. VMF-334. 1st SGT and the Ops Officer a CAPT. pinned my SGT stripes on me in the 1st SGT's office.

I was a PFC when I got to Vietnam in 65 when I got state side they said you are a l/cpl when are Battalion was forming up July of 66 they said you are a corporal at Getmo they said you are a Sargent. No Ceremony no paper's nothing special. So when I go back to the states again in Feb 1967 I became a corporal again that was my only Ceremony from the Battalion commander.

I remember the "tacking on" by a few of my division friends after morning muster where the advancement list was read by the division CPO. It was much more memorable, due to the actual pins/tacks, when my ESWS was pinned on me by the division CPO and others. Is there a Group for Surface Warfare on RallyPoint? Gonna Check.

Can't find a pic but remember a swarm of bees just off the grinder. One flew down my t shirt and stung me on. My left nipple. When the Commander I was assigned to a Medical Bn so we had a navy commander, asked why I was sweating, when I told him he shook his head and said and you haven't broke POA! That's why I love you Marines! He was a great "commander of Marines" as i remember him!

Okinawa Japan, Dec 1984. Lt Col Chapman (I believe).
This, 1 year after the SSgt I reported to at MCAS Cherry Point said that he would do everything in his power to see that I never made SGT.

The great part about it was that, unknown to me, my wife sent a Christmas card to my old unit and made sure to sign it SGT and Mrs......

I found that out when I returned to the states after my year overseas and they told me how ticked off the SSGT was.
