Your command has discretion as to when the APFT is given and should take into consideration the op-tempo of any given mission i.e.: deployment, field operations etc... However, It is on you as the Soldier to maintain your physical fitness at all times. Don't tell me you can't do push-ups, sit-ups and jog in place, do jumping jacks, or bring a jump rope to maintain your cardio vascular fitness for 15 minutes a day during your down time. I tell my new Soldiers to get off that phone and do some PT while they are sitting around. You cannot possibly convince me that any M-Day Soldier does not have 15 minutes a day to do some basic maintenance PT every day.
