This is sad to see. I really do hope that things are resolved there and the people of Ukraine maintain their freedom. This has really hurt Russia and Europe, and in turn can hurt us.

The problem is that the rest of the world has kind of forgotten about this. This made the news a year ago but now people are just used to conflict there.

Regardless of what side we believe is the “righteous” one, if there even is one that is better than the other, we seem to be ignoring, forgetting, or re-writing what happened in Ukraine. This was a violent takeover of what was the government by those currently in charge. If a group in this country, dissatisfied by our current president, stormed the Whitehouse, the snipers (yes there are snipers on the roof) would likely respond. This “horrendous” act, which by overwhelming majority, is used by the media to justify the rebellion which triggered it, could happen here. We have decided that the pro-Russian portions of Ukraine, do not have the right to separate themselves from this rebellion. Reporters that have actually talked to persons in these areas, dismiss their stories of abuse by the new rebel regime, since this is not what they want to promote. Americans tend to associate them with the British loyalists during the time of the American Revolution. These, however are not wealthy landowners seeking to maintain their property. These are mostly impoverished, working class, that are threatened with losing the little they have and feel threatened by this new group that believes itself to be so much more “enlightened” than themselves. Perhaps they are wrong, but who are we to say they should not have the right to choose? Right now, the only way they see of preserving that, is by defending themselves through force.
