Are hands allowed in pockets now?

I am at Fort Gordon as a civilian and work with mostly Soldiers. Has there been a change in policy where Soldiers can walk around with their hands in their pockets? I see it everywhere, outside walking on the sidewalk, in PTs, in duty uniform. Just this morning, one of our 1LTs walking outside with both hands in his pockets. Drives me crazy, it's so unprofessional.

No. It's still in AR 670-1.

3-6a(4): "While in uniform, personnel will not place their hands in their pockets, except momentarily to place or retrieve objects. Soldiers will keep uniforms buttoned, zipped, and snapped. They will ensure that metallic devices such as metal insignia, belt buckles, and belt tips are free of scratches and corrosion and properly polished or properly subdued, as applicable. Soldiers will ensure all medals and ribbons are clean and not frayed. Personnel will keep boots and shoes cleaned and/or shined, as appropriate. Soldiers will replace the insignia listed in AR 700–84 when it becomes unserviceable or no longer conforms to standards."

this and my other pet peeve, Officers addressing each other by their first name in front of troops - drives me absolutely nuts.

Thank God we serve in a military that is so perfect that one of the most pressing concerns is whether or not some Joe has his hand in his pocket. the bigger question is: while his hands are in his pockets, is he wearing his reflective belt?

I have always been taught to be mindful of where you are at in situations like this. Some units are more relaxed and then this becomes the norm. It then trickles over when they go to a TRADOC or school environment like this. To me there is a place and time for everything and this is not it. I personally do not see a problems with it but professionally we all have to abide by regulations.
